This Saturday, 21st November, there will be a rare chance to spend an informal afternoon with Mike Westbrook, musician and Britain’s foremost avant garde jazz composer.

Mike has been composing, performing and directing internationally for many years. He has produced more than 40 albums, and written for television, theatre and a huge range of other projects, many with his wife, singer, songwriter and artist, Kate Westbrook.

This year, the Exeter Big Noise Chorus annual Christmas Concert, on Thursday 3rd December, will raise deaf awareness by teaching audience members to sign popular Christmas songs alongside their usual toe-tapping musical score. Hundreds of people are expected to watch Exeter's Christmas lights being switched on this evening (Thursday 19 November 2015).

Raisins can predict a toddler’s future academic ability

A simple test using a raisin can predict how well a toddler will perform academically at age eight, according to research conducted at the University of Warwick.

Using just the piece of dried fruit and a plastic cup they have devised a test based on how long a 20-month old child can wait to pick up a raisin in front of them. The toddlers were given a raisin that was placed under an opaque cup within easy reach.
