Devon builder fined for listed building offences

An East Devon builder has been ordered to pay £20,120 in fines and costs for committing six listed building offences and one offence of failing to comply with an enforcement notice.

At a sentence hearing, which took place on Wednesday 28 October, at Exeter Magistrates Court, Barry Anthony Wright (who was represented legally) pleaded guilty to a total of seven criminal charges brought against him by East Devon District Council.

New Exeter collective officially opened

An Exeter business which provides specialist employment for people with disabilities has been officially opened by Devon County Council leader John Hart who said he was pleased to see the workers all flourishing.

The Devon Disability Collective (DDC) was set up after PLUSS announced the impending closure of its factory at Marsh Barton.

Devon County Council owns the building and agreed to waive the £150,000 rent for the first year and loan the collective £125,000 over five years to help its set-up costs and cash flow.

An Arts Council Grant has enabled Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery (RAMM) to investigate its Pacific collections, including the Melanesian human remains.

An injured wading bird has been rescued and given safe haven at Living Coasts in Devon.

Torquay’s coastal zoo and aquarium can provide the ideal estuary habitat for the whimbrel, now thought to be the only one in a public zoological collection in the UK.
