Junior doctors go on strike

Junior doctors in England are taking industrial action today (Tuesday, 12 January) after talks between the BMA and NHS Employers failed to reach an agreement.

Commenting, Dr Mark Porter, BMA council chair, said: “Throughout this process the BMA has been clear that it wants to reach agreement on a contract that is good for patients, junior doctors and the NHS. This is why, despite overwhelming support for industrial action, the BMA instead sought conciliation talks with the Government, talks which were initially rejected and delayed by Jeremy Hunt.

RSCPA appeal after hamsters left injured and homeless in Exeter

The RSPCA is appealing for information after 14 hamsters found themselves left in the cold outside a block of flats in Exeter at Christmas.

A member of the public was going out shopping on the afternoon of 21 December when they spotted four cages filled with Syrian hamsters on King Street, next to a block of flats.

At first they thought someone must have been moving out and had perched the cages there as a temporary measure, but when they returned several hours later and saw that the cages were still there they realised nobody was coming back for them.

City announce FA Cup replay ticket details

Exeter City has confirmed the latest on the arrangements for their trip to Liverpool in the Emirates FA Cup Third Round replay.

A statement on the club's website reads: "We are hopeful to have the tickets on-sale this evening at 8pm, subject to any possible delays changes by TV selections."

Rise in numbers attending Cathedral services

THE number of people joining Christmas services and concerts at Exeter Cathedral increased last month, to 24,500.

There were more people at every service throughout the month, contributing to a ten per cent rise on the numbers attending since last year.

A new service of Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve attracted 500 people and the Cathedral was filled to capacity for the traditional Grandisson service. The figures don’t include the normal weekday or Sunday services, but only special Christmas services and concerts.
