South West MEP Julie Girling has welcomed a trade-press report that leaving the EU would not automatically make life better for British fishermen and seafood companies.

She spoke out after the industry publication Undercurrent reported that "Brexit" would not necessarily free up UK fishing quotas or mean autonomy for the British fleet, according to the Marine Conservation Society.

Instead quotas would still need to be negotiated between the UK, the EU and any other member state involved, including Norway or Iceland, the MSC said.

Mrs Girling, Conservative MEP for...

Spring clean for Tiverton water main

Tiverton's trunk main is to get a spring clean - using ice crystals.

South West Water will be carrying out planned maintenance on the water network from 11-14 April.

Over time very low levels of iron and manganese present in all water supplies build up on the internal surfaces of water mains. If these are disturbed due to a sudden change in flow or pressure (caused by a burst main, for example) customers may notice their water appears discoloured.

To avoid this inconvenience, South West Water periodically removes any build-up in a controlled and planned way....

Exeter Greens have called for a halt to the continued growth of purpose-built luxury student accommodation, saying the speed and scale of the developments poses risks to the mix and diversity of the city centre; the provision of affordable accommodation and to student mental health.

The Party’s call for a curtailment of such new developments follows the latest plans for nearly 600 beds on the bus depot site and a planned 130+ bed block on historic Bartholomew Street. In the central area of the city alone, major developments totalling 2,640 beds are complete, under construction or...

A popular stretch of the South West Coast Path has been reopened ahead of the main walking season, with a new route through Natural England’s Axmouth to Lyme Regis Undercliffs National Nature Reserve.

The Path was closed and diverted inland almost two years ago at the western end of the Undercliffs, after an ongoing landslip resulted in the area becoming unsafe for walkers. Since then, there has been extensive negotiations with landowners and advice from geologists to create a new safe route through one of the most challenging and unusual sections of the entire South West Coast...

With the Easter holiday period drawing to a close many of us will be fitting back into our usual routine of waking up, getting ready for work, some of us rushing to get the kids ready for school and flying out the door desperate to avoid being late.
