For Julia Ogden, raising her beloved autistic son can be like bridging the gap to an alien world, one that can be difficult to navigate and interpret.

She has had to work hard over a number of years to identify and access networks for information and support for parents and carers. Now, Julia has worked with academics at the University of Exeter Medical School, to contribute to the MindEd consortium creating an “invaluable” online portal to help families with children affected by mental health issues.

Thomas Westcott raises £4,000 for SW MS Centre

A cheque for more than £4,000 was presented to the South West Multiple Sclerosis Centre charity by Thomas Westcott Chartered Accountants.

The money, which in total came to £4,100, was raised at the firm's annual charity golf day and other fund raising events and will go towards daily running costs of the centre in Clyst Heath, Exeter.

The South West MS Centre receives no government funding, relying solely on charitable donations in order to survive and is run by a team of part time staff and dedicated volunteers.

Orchestra says farewell to popular conductor

EMG Symphony Orchestra said farewell to its conductor with a performance of Britten’s War Requiem at Exeter Cathedral yesterday, 23 April. The Cathedral was full to capacity for the concert. A huge choir joined almost 100 players for the performance, which fell on the same date as the first bombing raids on Exeter during 1942. Potting Shed presenters join Garden Festival

Jo Loosemore and Sarah Chesters from BBC Radio Devon’s Potting Shed programme (Sundays from 9-12) will be part of Toby Buckland’s 2016 Garden Festival.

Over the years this popular BBC Radio Devon programme has helped gardeners and gardens all over the county.

It invites listeners to ring, write, email and text in with garden queries and questions. Sarah Chesters from RHS Rosemoor gives expert advice and answers. The two presenters will be offering gardening Q & A sessions on Saturday 30th April in the tea tent during four sessions between 11am - 4pm

If You Go Down to the Woods Today...

To be accurate, if you were down at Bystock Pools near Exmouth recently you would have been in for ‘a big surprise’.

Against the backdrop of tranquil pools and colourful heathland you would have seen a handful of musicians from Exeter Symphony Orchestra, in full concert dress working with photographer Matt Austin.

The extraordinary photo shoot has resulted in some stunning images.

These will be used initially in the June edition of Devon Life to promote The Devon Wildlife Trust’s ‘Concert for Wildlife’ to be held in Exeter Cathedral on the 16th July.
