Man charged with murder following Exeter death

A man has been charged following the death of 30-year-old James Woodhouse.

Police continue to investigate the death of a man found in flat 1, Okehampton Road, Exeter, on Monday 21 November.

Brett Williams Edwards, 37, from Okehampton Road, Exeter, was charged for the murder of James Woodhouse and appered before Exeter magistrates via video link this morning.

The victim has been named as 30-year-old James Woodhouse [pictured] who originated from North West England but had resided in the Exeter area for the past seven years. His next of kin have been informed....

Orange Army fix tracks in record time

Trains started running through the South West again today after Network Rail’s ‘Orange Army’ battled round the clock to fix damage caused by Storm Angus. Passenger services began to return to normal on the vital route 15 hours earlier than expected.

The railway at Cowley Bridge, Exeter reopened at 1pm having been closed since the early hours of Tuesday 22 November. Work to repair the line, which suffered severe flood damage, was initially expected to take 48 hours.

Exeter city centre will be full of festive cheer this Christmas courtesy of the Exeter Business Improvement District (BID). Starting from the 24th November, festive entertainers will be taking to the streets of Exeter to entertain shoppers.

The Winter Fairy, Betty Twinkle, the Bouncing Elves and many more will be appearing in the heart of the city every Thursday and Sunday until 22nd December. Dressed in enchanting light up costumes you won’t miss them as they walk around the centre with music, magic displays, balloon art and juggling shows.

Professional touch as community takes the stage for Christmas classic

An ambitious production of Scrooge the Musical – based on the Dickens’ classic ‘A Christmas Carol’ - promises to be a festive treat for audiences.

The song-filled community performance, which features actors, singers and dancers from Kentisbeare Performing Arts, takes place at Kentisbeare Village Hall from Tuesday December 6 to Saturday, December 10.

The production has been co-ordinated by musical director/producer Alan Boxer, director Rob Pudner, choreographer Leanne Perkins and designer Chris Speyer. James Wakefield steps into the miserly shoes of the title character....

Exeter Racecourse’s famous racing Clydesdales provided a magnificent spectacle on Sunday when their flying feathers and huge white faces had an enthusiast crowd enthralled as they raced in aid of the Devon Air Ambulance.

Solo, Siryl Allan, Frankie Doodle, Midge and Tom Parker were ridden by professional jockeys Noel Fehily, Aiden Coleman, Daryl Jacob, Sean Bowen, Tom Bellamy and James Best who urged them down the two-furlong stretch in front of their appreciative audience.

Midge, last year’s winner, was sent off the evens favourite and with a flying start under Noel Fehily...

Exeter’s leading festival of ideas, which is now in its sixth year, is responding to the unprecedented level of demand last year, when tickets for the Exeter Northcott Theatre sold out in just 22 minutes.

Once again the 2017 conference will bring together over 900 people on the day: 465 people will join the audience at the Exeter Northcott Theatre and a further 450 people will be able to watch a simultaneous livestream in an adjacent auditorium at Exeter University. Anglo-Welsh Cup fixtures confirmed

Premiership Rugby have today confirmed the kick-off dates and times for the final two pool games in this season’s Anglo-Welsh Cup.

Exeter Chiefs will play host to Wasps in Round 3 on Saturday, January 28 (3pm) before travelling to Bristol Rugby in Round 4 on Sunday, February 5 (3pm).

The Chiefs currently sit second in Pool 2 having lost 29-15 at Harlequins in their opening fixture, before thumping Cardiff Blues 62-25at Sandy Park in their latest outing.

Neither will be screened by BT Sport, who have opted to show the following fixtures over the final two rounds....

Rail line into Exeter still closed

Heavy rain has flooded the railway at Cowley Bridge, between Exeter St Davids and Taunton. Trains between these stations are currently unable to run.

Great Western Railway are advising customers not to travel unless absolutely necessary. At present, only very limited replacement road transport can be sourced.

Where possible Great Western Railway services between London Paddington and stations in Devon & Cornwall will be diverted via an alternative route where resources are available to do so.
