Exeter Phoenix’s annual short film festival, Two Short Nights, brought flocks of filmmakers, viewers and industry professionals to the city last week for a celebration of short film. Now in its sixteenth year, the festival featured more unmissable opportunities for emerging filmmakers alongside an extraordinary range and diversity of screenings for film fans than ever before, with a bumper two and a half days of cinema screenings, workshops and panel discussions. Scientist joins MP for week in Westminster

A top scientist is swapping labs for lobbies as he spends a week in Westminster.

Professor Craig Williams, from the University of Exeter, is shadowing Exeter MP Ben Bradshaw this week to learn about his work.

An expert in exercise management for young people with chronic diseases, Professor Williams will attend seminars and discussions to see how scientific evidence is used in policy making.

There was double celebration for retired teacher and volunteer Richard Parker as he was crowned People’s Champion of the Year 2017 along with receiving the Lifetime Achievement award at Teignbridge’s Sports and Community Awards.

The former Teign School teacher has dedicated more than 40 years’ service in education, integrating his love for the outdoors in the school curriculum. Dick was also the recipient of the Army’s Platinum Award for this work on the Ten Tors.
