MACS receives £1,000 from local Freemasons

Every Spring and Autumn, Freemasons from all parts of Devon meet to give support totalling in excess of £50,000 to local charities & organisations throughout the county who are in need of assistance. MACS was one of the groups who were nominated by St Michael’s Lodge. MACS (Microphthalmia, Anophthalmia and Coloboma Support) supports children born without eyes or with underdeveloped eyes, and their families. The charity’s network of regional representatives ensures that families are brought together locally, including in and around Exeter, so that everyone feels part of the MACS family...

Warning to motorists parking near Exeter Canal

People are being warned not to park their cars beside an access road to a popular canal-side pub in Exeter. Signs are due to go up on Tuesday (19 June) along the road between Salmonpool Bridge and the Double Locks pub. The City Council said a number of motorists were regularly parking at the side of the road, causing problems for passing vehicles and damaging the banks of the canal and the footpath. Two Moors Festival honour for Exeter School musician

A 13-year-old pupil from Exeter School is celebrating being named Young Musician of the Year at the prestigious Two Moors Festival.

Double bass player Adam Cole shares the title with three other young musicians.

Year 9 pupil Adam likes playing classical and jazz music on double bass and piano.

Adam competed against over 50 performers across the South West (all Grade 7 or equivalent and aged 18 or under) and will now perform at the featured Festival Autumn Award Winners Concert in October.

The awards ceremony for the Outstanding Care Awards for Devon and Cornwall has celebrated local heroes in the caring sector.

Carers, Rowcroft Hospice and Ocean Healthcare were amongst employees, volunteers and care organisations from across the region celebrated at the awards.

The ceremony saw more than 300 people attend the sold out event at the Livermead Hotel in Torquay.

Places on the Hospiscare Twilight Walk , taking place on 7 July, are going fast, so walkers – and runners – are advised to sign up soon. For the first time, this year’s event includes a 5k fun run as well as the now-traditional 5 or 10 mile walking routes, to cater for women and girls of all ages and levels of fitness.
