Over 700 people have helped continue the tradition of hand-picking apples from the orchard at the National Trust’s Killerton estate, in time to be pressed at Killerton’s Apple Festival on 13 and 14 October. Thanks to hundreds of helping hands they were able to pick approximately 6 tonnes of apples, ready for the start of the cider and apple making season.

The apples are harvested then pressed on a 200-year-old cider press during the event to make the estate’s award winning cider and apple juice, which people can see being made at the apple festival this weekend. Killerton is home...

FarmWise 2018 is gearing up to welcome 1500 schoolchildren from all across Devon to Westpoint, Exeter, to come and learn more about farming in Devon and where their food comes from.

On October 16th, the children, and their teaching staff, will be able to touch, feel and even smell animals and their produce. The organisers aim to send the children back to school understanding why farming is important for Devon, what sort of foods come from Devon farms, and why farming is so important to the environment.

Patients across Devon will be able to make routine GP appointments in evenings and at weekends from this month.

The aim of the GP improved access service is to make it easier for people to get an appointment at a time that suits them.

This new scheme is an extension of the usual GP practice services that patients across Devon will be used to – it is not a walk-in service. Patients will still need to contact their GP practices directly to make an appointment if they want to see a GP between the longer opening hours during weekday evenings, weekends and bank holidays....

The Lord Lieutenant of Devon has appointed the Countess of Arran MBE DL to be the new Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Devon following the sad death of the previous incumbent, Sir John Cave Bt, who died in June.

The Countess of Arran has a distinguished record as a landowner at Castle Hill, Filleigh in North Devon living at her family, the Fortescue’s Estate where she has been actively involved with the development of agriculture and leisure over the years. RGB Building Supplies has selected Exeter’s Tedburn St Mary School as a finalist in its Well Built Community Fund and it’s now down to a public vote to decide if the school is chosen to win a stunning premium kitchen worth £9,700.

The school’s current kitchen was installed many years ago and forms part of the old Headteacher’s house. The school would like to use the kitchen to do more cooking with the pupils and teach them about keeping the area in a clean and tidy condition.
