For the second time the international animal welfare charity, The Donkey Sanctuary, has been commended by HRH The Princess Royal for its inspirational commitment to the learning and development of its staff. The Donkey Sanctuary is among 48 UK organisations and businesses that have been commended by the 2018 Princess Royal Training Awards, other organisations include John Lewis Partnership, GlaxoSmithKline and the Royal Air Force. For this year’s third edition of the Sea Change Festival at Totnes, south Devon, a new partnership with pioneering arts organisation Dartington Hall will see the festival expanding into the historic 14th-century estate.

On 19 September 2018, Lympstone Manor will be hosting its inaugural Protégé Dinner event to celebrate the talented chefs who have trained under celebrated British chef Michael Caines during their formative years.

Each of the eight hand-selected protégés will be joining Michael from across the UK and Ireland to create a collaborative eight-course tasting menu in his Michelin-starred kitchen.

Mark Thompson, who works at the Marsh Barton restaurant in Exeter, has recently celebrated 35 years with the company.

Mark began working at McDonald’s in 1983 as a Crew Member in the Friar Street restaurant in Reading and has since spent much of his career as a Shift Manager; running restaurants’ breakfast, day and night shifts. Mark currently works as a Customer Experience Manager four days a week and is responsible for ensuring the restaurant delivers the best possible customer care.

New patrol boat for the Exe Estuary

A new patrol boat has been launched in the Exe Estuary to help protect wildlife and ensure water users stay safe.

The 5.75-metre-long patrol boat has been funded by the South East Devon Habitat Regulations Executive Committee (SEDHREC) -- a partnership of Teignbridge, Exeter and East Devon Councils set up to help protect internationally important conservation sites on the Exe Estuary, Dawlish Warren and East Devon's Pebblebed Heaths. Recent heatwave reveals historic farm

This summer’s hot, dry weather has revealed cropmarks in a field in Bicton that show a Romano-British farmstead once stood there.

Aerial photography of the farmstead, originally discovered by former Devon County Archaeologist Frances Griffith in 1984, has been released by Historic England. The cropmarks suggest the field in Bicton may have contained farm buildings surrounded by fields and paddocks.
