Landmark listed Sidmouth structure to be closed while council carries out essential maintenance
Sidmouth’s iconic Jacob’s Ladder, which leads up to Connaught Gardens from the beach below, will be closed for two to three weeks (weather depending) from 3 January 2019, while East Devon District Council’s local contractor C Sansom Ltd undertakes essential maintenance works to the structure.

A team of volunteers are preparing to leave their own families on Christmas day to answer Childline calls from children who have nowhere else to turn.
The NSPCC’s Helpline and Childline services operate 365 days a year, with trained counsellors poised to take calls from children, and adults who are concerned about a child’s welfare.

East Devon District Council chairman, Cllr Andrew Moulding, held a Civic Carol Service , at the Parish Church of St Michael in Musbury. The Officiant was The Reverend Hilary Dawson.

On Tuesday 11th December the Devon and Cornwall region of the Lord’s Taverners held their Christmas Lunch at Exeter’s famous Sandy Park. A record-breaking 636 people descended upon the grounds; comprising of local business, organisations and their guests. A lunch of this scale is a first for Exeter.
Through generous sponsorship and donated prizes the lunch raised just over £70,000. That is a fantastic amount and will allow the Lord’s Taverners charity to continue their work of enhancing disabled young people’s lives, through the use of sports such as cricket.
Police are investigating a fatal collision involving a car and a pedestrian at around 9.20pm on Saturday 15 December to Alphington Road, Exeter.
The incident took place underneath the railway bridge.
Formal identification of the 19-year-old pedestrian has yet to have taken place.

Age UK Somerset, based in Taunton, has been handed £1,000 from persimmon Homes South West’s Community Champions fund. Grecians fight back to claim all three points at Boundary Park!
A Jayden Stockley hat-trick gave Exeter City all three points away from home at Oldham Athletic in Sky Bet League Two.
A tough first half saw Athletic go ahead through Sam Surridge's header before Stockley levelled things going into the break.
Callum Lang then put the hosts back in front just after half-time, but a powerful left footed finish from Stockley made the score 2-2. The striker then got the winner with a well taken header from Lee Holmes' cross.
