A dream has become a reality for a 21-year-old from Crediton who has launched her own business in the town.

Chloe Burston-Thomas caught the baking bug watching her granny rustling up tasty treats in the family’s farmhouse kitchen.

After leaving school, Chloe studied at Exeter College’s prestigious Michael Caines’s Academy where she honed her skills.

She then spent a couple of years working with her family at Sandford Orchards, followed by a spell at Crediton Coffee Company before deciding to go it alone.

Three in ten Britons lie about their driving habits, according to new research published by ethical car recycling company Scrap Car Network. Their results show that ‘climate guilt’ becoming an increasingly pressing concern for many of us. The most common lies all concerned car usage itself, with 73% of respondents saying they lie about the number of journeys they make, 63% about their annual mileage, and more than a third (36%) actually lie about the fact they even owned a car.

New plans revealed for Tickety-Boo

Stuart Phillips, owner of Ottery St Mary coffee shop Tickety-Boo has announced plans for the business following the closure earlier this month of the play area.

The move means that not only will the play area still be usable – albeit on different terms than before - but there will be new activities available for younger children.

This is because the back section of the building which formerly housed the soft play and pirate ship is being rented to Baby Sensory. This award-winning initiative runs WOW programmes for babies and children from birth to Key Stage 1.

Global internet advisory role for Exeter lawyer

An Exeter lawyer has been appointed to the internet committee of a global trade mark organisation.

Ben Travers, partner and head of intellectual property and IT at Stephens Scown LLP, will help to advise the International Trademark Association (INTA) on how trade marks are used in the domain name system.

Katy Toms, a senior engineer at WSP Exeter and Chair of the board of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) South West, has been announced as one of the top 100 Most Influential Women in the engineering sector.
