Police step up patrols to target anti-social behaviour and serious violence

More than 2,000 hours of extra police patrols across Devon and Cornwall have resulted in 62 arrests during the first quarter of a hotspot policing initiative. The scheme, which launched in May this year, aims to tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB) and serious violence.

Police and Crime Commissioner Alison Hernandez secured £1 million of Home Office funding to deliver additional police and street marshal patrols. Crime data was used to identify hotspots in 13 towns and cities across the peninsula.

Devon-based Taylor Wimpey staff joined thousands of others across the region as they took to their bikes on Cycle to Work Day on 1st August 2024.

Employees at the housebuilder’s head office in Exeter did their commute by bicycle, helping to keep traffic from the roads and cut emissions. New respiratory vaccine programme protecting infants and elderly will save lives across Devon

The UK will become the first country in the world to have a national programme that uses the same vaccine to protect both newborns and older adults against Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).

The rollout, which will start from 1 September in England, includes both a vaccine for pregnant women over 28 weeks to help protect their newborn babies, a routine programme for those over 75, and a one-off campaign for people aged 75 to 79.
