Really Big Quiz raises over £30,000 for North Devon charities

Barnstaple’s Really Big Quiz, which marked its 10th anniversary on 13 November, is celebrating a major milestone having raised over £30,000 for the Mayor of Barnstaple’s charities of choice since its launch in 2010.

This year’s event, which was once again organised and hosted by Exeter and Barnstaple-based accountancy firm Simpkins Edwards, raised over £2,900, tipping the total collected over the years to £30,316.96. Combined with Simpkins Edwards’ Exeter edition of the Really Big Quiz, which has been running since 2003, the firm has helped raise over £114,000 for local charities...

An enormous solid oak trestle refectory table reputed to have come from Battle Abbey in East Sussex is to be sold at Chilcotts Auctioneers Fine Art, Antiques and Collectors Items sale on November 30.

The 17th century table had been kept at a house on Exmoor and was part of a probate valuation; the family revealed that their grandparents had lived in Mayfield in East Sussex in the early 1950s, a stone’s throw from the Abbey, which is how it may have come into their possession.

Dartmoor Christmas Trees has once again been chosen to supply Downing Street with a Christmas tree this festive season.

Stuart & Jennie Kirkup have won Champion Grower twice, in 2016 and 2019, and as a result have been asked to supply the tree for outside number 10 this year.
