Deaf Awareness Week sees free sign language classes launched for thousands of families

Families across England will get the chance to learn British Sign Language in the comfort of their own homes with free online classes launched today (Friday, May 8th).

The series of classes will be run by the National Deaf Children’s Society every Friday for 12 weeks as part of its Family Sign Language programme. The date was picked to mark Deaf Awareness Week (May 4th-8th).

Each class will cover a different topic, including vocabulary and conversation related to family life so parents and children can learn together.

Exeter cartoonist Ross Hendrick has recently completed his latest work, a comic book which humorously yet thoughtfully documents the struggles with social anxiety.

Ross, who has previously worked for such publications as The Beano, Viz and the Express & Echo, is the creator of a popular webcomic called Socially Awkward Misfit. The protagonist is a character called Sam (an acronym of Socially Awkward Misfit) who is loosely based on Ross's own life.

Online Auction helps to raise £13,000 for NHS Charity

The Exeter Chiefs Foundation have today handed over a cheque in the sum of £13,000 to representatives of the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital Charity.

The money was raised from a week-long Online Auction, run by the club’s official charity, which saw numerous signed memorabilia collected by the club over the years put up for sale.

Signed shirts, training tops, together with international kit and shirts from rival clubs, were among the many items on offer.

Not surprisingly, all 60 items were bid on, helping to raise the £13,000 for the #HelpUsHelpYou appeal....
