Exeter people planning on dressing up this Hallowe’en are being urged to void having a ‘sight-mare’ by looking after their eyes.

Exeter Specsavers store staff are hoping that fancy dress revellers don’t play a trick on their eyes by using costume contact lenses and make-up, and instead treat them to the care they deserve this Saturday.

Scott McGowan, ophthalmic director at the store, says: ‘While novelty contact lenses may seem like a perfect costume addition, they can damage eyes – especially if not handled in the right way.

As bicycle use spikes during local lockdowns, drivers need to be aware of the 1.5 metre rule which encourages motorists to make room and protect cyclists.

During the first 30 days of lockdown in March, the Department for Transport (DfT) found that cycling fatalities were more than double the number compared to the same periods from 2015-18 even though the level of vehicle traffic had dropped to 36% of its pre-lockdown level.
