A Taste of Zen: Suki Cafe Elevates Exeter’s Food Scene with New Matcha Soft Serve Menu
Exeter is fast becoming a true foodie lover’s destination. With its diverse range of cuisines and innovative independent restaurants, the city offers residents and visitors alike a genuine taste of the good life. Now, there is a vibrant new reason to explore the city’s historic heart: Suki Cafe has officially launched its highly anticipated matcha soft serve menu.
Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the High Street, just a five-minute stroll from Exeter Cathedral, on Waterbeer St, Suki Cafe is a quiet, unassuming gem. For over a year, it has delighted locals with a unique blend of Japanese and European treats, from delicately decorated palmitas to traditional whisked matcha teas. With this new launch, Suki is set to become a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a dessert experience that stands out from the crowd.
Crafted using high-quality Japanese matcha blended into luxurious, creamy soft serve, the menu offers everything from simple cones to decadent dessert cups. For those seeking the ultimate indulgence, the Strawberry and Meringue Cup offers a Japanese twist on the classic Eton Mess, while the Brownie and Salted Caramel Cup provides a rich, textured delight topped with honeycomb and raspberry sauce.
The menu is has been developed by manager Thinn, who’s aim was to bring something truly fresh to the local community. "We really wanted to offer something both unique and delicious to our customers," says Thinn. "Matcha has such a wonderful, earthy umami flavour, so pairing it with high-quality soft serve is something we felt would really work.”

For Exeter’s growing independent food scene, Suki’s innovation is a significant win. While matcha is a global sensation known for its health benefits and vibrant colour, Suki’s artisan approach ensures that the traditional "umami" flavour is preserved. As Thinn says “It’s about creating a moment of joy that you can't find anywhere else in the city."
Whether you are a local resident looking for a new Friday afternoon ritual or a visitor exploring the Cathedral Quarter, Suki Cafe’s new menu offers a sophisticated, refreshing alternative to standard high-street offerings. In a city that prides itself on independence, Suki Cafe is proving that sometimes the best things are found just off the beaten track.
Suki Cafe is located at 19 Waterbeer St, Exeter.
