Irish comedy hurricane Jason Byrne is heading to Exeter with his brand-new live show, Head in the Clouds, on 8 November at the Corn Exchange – part of a major UK tour following his run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Known for his wildly spontaneous shows and chaotic audience interaction, Byrne’s latest tour promises the same high-energy mayhem – but with a fresh twist. In a recent interview, the Dublin-born comic revealed how he selects unsuspecting audience members: “Every time I’ve picked a woman, they’ve done what I asked perfectly. When it’s a man, it’s chaos – facing the wrong way, forgetting hearing aids… it’s much funnier.”

Inspired by his own childhood daydreaming – something teachers told him off for – Head in the Clouds celebrates imagination, silliness and the sheer joy of mucking about. “This isn’t awful office team-building,” Byrne laughs. “It’s just me orchestrating a ridiculous night with some nice bits of stand-up.”

Expect lino-based dance routines, clouds from Temu, and 80s nostalgia as younger audience members are invited on stage to guess the purpose of forgotten relics from the past, all while distractions unfold in true Jason Byrne style.

Despite six stents and doctors advising him to take it easy, Byrne insists the physical comedy won’t stop – though he admits his wilder stunts (like swinging in his underpants on a mock wrecking ball) may be behind him. He’s also developing an animated sitcom based on his hit play Paddy Lama, hoping to become Ireland’s answer to The Simpsons.

With Exeter’s show set amidst his biggest-ever tour, Byrne is ready to deliver “a hilarious storm of nonsense” packed with ad-libbed brilliance, surreal audience moments, and comic chaos only he can command.
