Calling All Art Lovers!
Are you an art-lover? Do you like a bit of drama? Or beauty? Or food for thought?
Well, this summer, Exeter-based international production studio, Kaleider, is looking for art-lovers to become Citizen Commissioners of a new artwork.
A Citizen Commissioner is someone who wants to see an artwork made and out in the world. For just £10, they can support an international piece of art, and get their name (or the name of a loved one) in the credits forever.
“The goal is to find 2,000 people to donate £10 each. So it’s a really collective, ground up kind of campaign.” explains Katie Keeler, joint-CEO of Kaleider.
The artwork is called Arch and it has been developed so far in Exeter (where Kaleider is based), Rouen in France, and at the National Theatre Studio London. In 2024, Arch will tour in the UK, US, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Switzerland.
Seth Honnor, Director of Arch, says: “Arch is an epic spectacle of ice, fire and music.”
“It is about the world we live in. On the one hand – economic turmoil, the threat to democracy, and climate emergency. On the other – the beauty and love of humans, the hope and ingenuity, the effort to try and try and try. Parallel truths in beautiful painful tension.”
The company has released a 4 minute video to help people imagine what Arch is going to be like when finished.
People are already coming forward with their £10 donations, saying: “Beautiful work for a beautiful world.”
"Just supported this (join me!) because I really want to see this come to life but mostly I love the idea of "citizen commissioners" and that I have become one!"
“Contributing in my daughter's name, for her and all her friends' futures.”
“'Arch' looks like it has the potential to shift our consciousness in a unique way. Beautiful!”
