Tips on how to lower your carbon footprint

With everyone going green, you need to find ways to reduce your carbon footprint. Here are the best tips on how to reduce your carbon footprint effectively. 

1. Switch it off – If there is sufficient natural light, you need to turn off your electric lights. Also, you should always switch off the lights when you leave a room. 

2. Climate Control – Always keep the temperature system in your house on a moderate setting, especially when you are in the room.

3. Check your windows – If your your climate control system is turned on, you should shut your windows. If you need to open them for some fresh air, you should turn off the heat or AC.

4. Minimise plug load – Reduce the number of appliances running in your house to save on energy. 

5. Phantom power – A lot of electronics are still using power even when powered down so unplug them from the socket if you want to save on a little power.

6. Turn off yor computer – You should always switch off your computer when you are away instead of leaving it on a screensaver.

7. Take the stairs – Avoid using lifts often since they use a lot of electricity. Take the stairs whenever possible.

8. Full loads of laundry – You should do full loads of laundry and use bright colors cycle for the best results.

9. Shorter showers – Take shorter showers to use less hot water since less energy will be used to heat the water. 

10. CFLs – Use compact fluorescent light bulbs which use 75% less energy that incandescent lights and are more durable.

11. Conserve Paper – When printing, you should do it on both sides and use single-sided pages for notes. 

12. Recycle – Visit the nearest recycling center to deposit aluminum cans, glass, plastics, office paper, cardboard and newspaper. You should also recycle bulk metal, office electronics and surplus furniture. You can donate mobile phones, their chargers, cleaning supplies, furniture and clothing too. 13. Exercise – If you're not going too far, you should consider riding a bike or walking. It’s the best form of exercise if you are often sitting down in the office for long hours.
