Luminous Show Technology is thrilled and relieved to have been awarded a supportive grant package as part of the Government’s £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund (CRF) to help them face the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic and to ensure they have a sustainable future, the Culture Secretary has announced today.

Luminous Show Technology is one of 588 cultural and creative organisations across the country receiving urgently needed support – with £76 million of investment announced recently. This follows £257 million awarded overall to 1,385 organisations, also from the Culture Recovery Fund grants programme being administered by Arts Council England on behalf of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. Further rounds of funding in the cultural and heritage sector are due to be announced over the coming weeks.

The innovative design and specialist fabrication work that Luminous was created to develop supports productions across theatre, sports, music, TV and film – areas within the beleaguered Live Entertainment sector that has been decimated by the effects of the pandemic. This funding will ensure that Luminous can continue to push the UK to the forefront of show technology, for which we are immensely grateful.

We are also keenly aware that many of the businesses, individuals and organisations that we have proudly worked shoulder to shoulder with are still struggling, through ineligibility for the recovery grants or else because businesses are unable to sustain their full workforce under current conditions. We would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone how many individuals it takes to make an event and, therefore, how many lives and families this period is affecting. #WeMakeEvents #RedAlertRESTART #LightItInRed

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said: “This is more vital funding to protect cultural gems across the country, save jobs and prepare the arts to bounce back. Through Arts Council England we are delivering the biggest ever investment in the arts in record time. Hundreds of millions of pounds are already making their way to thousands of organisations.

Luminous’ Director, Edwin Samkin said: “We are delighted to confirm we have received funding from the UK governments’ #CultureRecoveryFund so that we can continue to be here for all of you and #HereForCulture Culture creates jobs, supports livelihoods, and brings joy to everyone. The UK leads the world in the creative industry, a source of pride for us all. Luminous have been deemed viable but so many event suppliers and the highly skilled people behind them have not been as fortunate. We are hugely sensitive to this and will continue to strongly support the movements raising recognition of the devastation in the live event sector and examining what ‘viability’ means in this ever-evolving situation.”
