Appeal for witnesses in double fatal North Devon accident

Police are appealing for witnesses after two men in their 20s died in a fatal road traffic collision in north Devon.

Just after 8am on Friday 12 October, officers and emergency services were called to a single-vehicle collision on an unclassified road that leads from the A361 at South Molton to North Molton.

The blue Peugeot 306 convertible was travelling from the direction of North Molton when it left the road and dropped 15 feet into the fast-flowing flooded River Mole.   The driver, a 25-year-old man from Brixham, sustained serious injuries and was taken to North Devon District Hospital by ambulance. He died a short time later. The passenger, a 24-year-old man from South Molton, was pronounced deceased at the scene.   Officers from the Force Serious Collisions Investigation Unit have launched an investigation into the collision. They are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the Peugeot travelling from the Exmoor direction toward North Molton or South Molton sometime during the late evening of Thursday or early hours of Friday morning to contact the police.
