Leading environmental firm, SLR Consulting, which has an office in Exeter, has accelerated a recruitment drive which could see over 20 strategic staff hires within its UK operations over the next year. Opportunities also exist for entry-level placements to senior appointments in a broad range of technical disciplines.

SLR’s Exeter team of environmental specialists is currently involved in projects ranging from support on the construction of the A380 Kingskerswell Bypass, preparation of an Environmental Impact Assessment for a cable car at Cheddar Gorge for the Longleat Estate, ground contamination issues as a result of flooding at various sites and archaeological investigations on a former quarry.

Local clients include Devon County Council, CG Fry & Son, ICE Renewables, Agrivert and Viridor. The Exeter technical specialists have also assisted on projects throughout the UK and abroad – these include masterplanning schemes in London, a gold mine in Northern Ireland, and both on and offshore windfarms in Malta for the Maltese government.

As well as seeking to attract additional UK industry experts, SLR is also looking for consultants for possible placement into roles in its overseas operations in Canada, United States, Southern Africa and Australia in support of its global expansion plans.

The recruitment drive follows the announcement earlier in the year of the company’s continued growth and strong performance and the securing of a further £15million in acquisition finance.

“Our recruitment approach for the Exeter office is based on ensuring we continue to meet the evolving needs of our clients across all business sectors, which include planning and development, infrastructure, mining, waste and energy. So, despite the on-going challenges of the economy, we are investing to enhance our offering to both existing and new clients and strategic hires form an important part of this plan,” said Mandy McCarthy, Exeter Office Manager.

SLR, which employs 320 consultants in the UK, provides multi-disciplinary technical advice and support on a wide range of strategic and site-specific issues. SLR benefits from a high level of repeat business, with over 50 per cent of revenue coming from clients for whom the company has worked for five years or more.
