Temporary lights on Bridge Road tonight
Temporary traffic lights will be introduced overnight on Bridge Road in Exeter this evening (Tuesday 24 May) from 11pm until 5am tomorrow morning (Wednesday 25 May).
The temporary signals are needed to allow the contractor safe working space to install a new temporary pedestrian crossing to access the Boat Club. This temporary access is needed during work on the Swing Bridge, which is due to start imminently.
During this work, the bridge will have to be rotated over the canal to allow a piling rig to access the foundation area near the bridge’s main pivot point. When the bridge is opened, it removes the only pedestrian access route to the Boat Club.
From Wednesday 25 May, if the Swing Bridge footbridge is not accessible, any pedestrians wishing to reach the Boat Club may use this new temporary crossing, which is near the entrance to the SWW access road.
Anyone travelling while the temporary lights are in place overnight tonight should expect delays, including limited periods of up to 10 minutes when the lights are set to ‘all-red’ in order to move construction plant.
Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to access Bridge Road during this overnight period, although they may be marshalled through the works and are therefore urged to take care and follow instructions from site staff.
