Another weather warning for heavy rain has been issued for Devon.

Further spells of heavy rain are expected to develop across the region  during Friday evening, persisting overnight, before clearing away to the south during Saturday morning.

The heaviest and most prolonged spells of rain are likely to be over high ground.

Forecasters are warning that there could be further localised flooding and disruption to travel.

The Met Office’s chief forecaster said: “A cold front is expected to become slow moving across the region during Friday evening and night, before clearing southeastwards during Saturday morning.

“Around 10-20mm of rain is expected to fall quite widely, with 40mm possible over high ground.

“There remains some uncertainty over how long the frontal zone will become slow moving across the region and therefore the expected amounts of rain.

The five day forecast for Devon is as follows:

Tonight:
Starting clear across the far south/southeast; turning cloudier here but remaining mostly dry. Elsewhere cloudy with rain, heavy and persistent in the north with very strong winds.

Friday:
Heavy, persistent rain in the north and west easing and breaking up as it moves southeastwards, with showers following. Very windy, with severe gales in central and northern areas.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:
Generally unsettled and windy with heavy rain, especially for the west. Cold on Saturday with snow for northern Britain. Milder on Sunday, then colder with severe gales on Monday.
