Weather warning issued for Devon
A weather warning has been issued for Devon as gale force winds are expected to hit the region on Tuesday (17 November).
Gusts are expected to reach 60-70mph inland and possibly 80mph along exposed coasts, which could cause disruption to travel.
The warning is valid from 3.30pm until 11.30pm on Tuesday.
Gusts of this strength could bring down tress and lead to some damage to weakened structures.
A chief forecaster at the Met Office said: “A deepening area of low pressure is likely to track east across southern Ireland and then central parts of the UK during Tuesday afternoon and evening, with a swathe of very strong winds potentially developing on the southern flank of the low.
“At this stage, the worst of the winds are expected to reach West Wales mid to late afternoon, sweeping rapidly eastwards during the evening. There remains a good deal of uncertainty in this evolution and particularly the location of the strongest winds, so this warning will be kept under review and updated as necessary.”
The regional forecast for the next five days is as follows:
Today:
Dry for most, with some sunny intervals at times, especially this morning. Cloud may thicken during the day as rain approaches from the southwest later. Temperatures will be around average for the time of year. Maximum Temperature 13°C.
Tonight:
Rain will gradually make its way north-eastwards through the region but will clear to bring a partly cloudy start for many on Tuesday. As a result temperatures will be mild. Minimum Temperature 12°C.
Tuesday:
After a cloudy start, further outbreaks of rain will affect most on Tuesday, with some heavy downpours over the hills. By afternoon clearer spells will develop as winds become gusty. Maximum Temperature 15°C.
Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:
Rain will continue to affect many over the next few days, although some brighter spells may develop at times. Temperatures starting to feel cooler towards the end of the week.
