Children enjoy new play equipment thanks to city council
Children have extra reason to celebrate this Christmas with the re-opening of a children's play area.
The play space is tucked away off Quarry Park Road in the Broadfields area, and is heavily used by many pupils from Walter Daw Primary School which is located immediately adjacent to the site.
Although well used, the site was in need of some attention as most of the play equipment was either showing its age, or had already reached the end of its useful life and been removed.
The refurbishment has seen the installation of a new multi-play unit providing opportunities for children aged four to sight, to climb, slide, swing and gather.
There is also a new rocking toy for the under fives, and a new timber adventure trail which is a challenging balancing and climbing feature – great for children up to 10 years old.
A new goal unit has also been provided on the existing tarmac area to allow football to be played on the hard surface as well as the grass.
This will come in very useful when it gets wet and muddy during the winter. The existing sets of swings have also been refurbished and add to the general feel of improvement at the site.
Cllr Greg Sheldon, Lead Councillor for Environment and Leisure, said: "We are very happy that another play area has undergone significant refurbishment, and we are sure that these improvements will be appreciated by local people.
"We have already been able to improve other children's play facilities this year and there are more projects planned for the early part of 2013. This emphasises how important we consider children’s play and leisure activities, and we are very much committed to ensuring these free-to-use facilities remain in place and are well looked after."
Further play area refurbishment projects are planned for Chantry Meadow and Bull Meadow play areas. It is envisaged that both of these projects will be completed during the first half of 2013.
