Operation Derig is back
Operation Derig, an operation where police officers aim to disrupt and prevent illegal raves, is back in force this bank holiday weekend.
Officers from both Devon and Cornwall will be taking part in the operation.
On the evening of Saturday 3rd May Police were called to Bampton Down where it was suspected a rave was being set up. Officers attended promptly and found a number of people setting up a major sound system for a rave. Individuals were directed to leave the area, further persons on route to the rave were turned away and the equipment was taken into police possession. Investigations will follow with a view to prosecuting those organising the event. An early call from a member of the public and prompt action by the police prevented a large illegal gathering in this instance.
Officers will continue to be deployed on Operation Derig over the remainder of the bank holiday weekend.
Operation Derig was first put into place over the Easter weekend, when many illegal raves were believed to be taking place.
