Fed up of the wet and windy weather? Take heart, there is a glimmer of hope.

The Met Office says that over the next few days the winds will ease and the showers will become less intense.

However, it's unlikely that there will be any rain free days in the run up to the weekend.

The Met Office forecast is as follows:

Today:

Scattered showers, these heavy and thundery at first, but becoming less intense through the morning. Some good sunny spells in between. Winds will continue to ease throughout the day. Maximum Temperature 11 °C.

Tonight:

Showers easing before some persistent rain affects eastern parts for a time. Skies clearing by dawn with winds continuing to ease. Minimum Temperature 5 °C.

Wednesday:

A largely clear start with light winds before rain arrives from the southwest through the morning. This persistent and heavy at times, clearing later in the evening. Maximum Temperature 11 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Winds much lighter than of late. Plenty of sunshine on Thursday and much of Friday. Rain arriving late on Friday will die out during Saturday. Mild nights.
