M6 closed off after chemical tanker catches fire

The M6 is currently closed off, and drivers have been evacuated after a large tanker, reportedly carrying chemicals, caught fire.

Images shared by people at the scene show the tanker on fire, and very long queues behind with no movement possible.

Five people are reportedly being treated at the scene for injuries.

3 million fewer UK adults visit the pub on a regular basis

Jackpotjoy.com succeeded in bringing a smile to the faces of chilly Londoners this morning as an enormous rubber duck floated down the Thames as part of the website's 'FUNdation' launch.

The oversized bath toy was launched from West India Dock in the Isle of Dogs, east London, at 8.30am this morning. Gay weddings to be banned by Churches of England and Wales

Gay weddings in the Churches of England and Wales will be explicitly banned under new laws on same-sex marriage, the Government has announced.

Other religious organisations will be able to "opt in" to holding ceremonies, Culture Secretary Maria Miller said. But she added that the Church of England and Church in Wales had "explicitly" stated strong opposition and would not be included. The plans are due to be introduced before the next election, in 2015.

Victim of Royal prank call has been found dead

King Edward VII hospital, where the Duchess of Cambridge was recently admitted for acute morning sickness, has paid tribute to "a first class" nurse who has been found dead after falling victim to a hoax phone call.

The nurse, named as Jacintha Saldanha, who was married with two children, was tricked into putting the prank call through from two Australian DJs pretending to be the Queen and Prince Phillip, who subsequently gained access to confidential information about the Duchess' medical condition.

Duchess of Cambridge leaves hospital

Amid much press furore, the Duchess of Cambridge has now left King Edward VII hospital in central London after several days of treatment for acute morning sickness - hyperemesis gravidarum - since Monday.

St James's Palace said in a statement that she was now heading to Kensington Palace for a period of rest.

George Osborne says "Britain is on the right track"

George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer, has said in his Autumn Statement that "We are making progress. It is a hard road, but Britain is on the right track and turning back would be a disaster."

As always a light sprinkling of the white stuff has led to hysteria across the country!

Met with either despair or elation when the snow comes to Britain you can guarantee no one will speak of anything else. People have taken to social media in their thousands to document the first snow of winter for the majority of the country, and being December has started to get people into the festive spirit!
