The Practical Side of Financing: From Fridges to Boilers

Financing has become a familiar presence in daily British shopping habits. Once reserved for cars and home renovations, it now appears alongside everything from fridges to laptops. The result is a subtle shift in how UK households approach essential purchases. Rather than saving for months or dipping into emergency funds, more families are spreading payments across the year to keep monthly budgeting predictable.

This shift is not purely about convenience. It reflects practical decision-making in a cost-conscious climate. When essential home equipment fails, families rarely have...

Dorset town's shops close in protest of planned Tesco development

Shops in the Dorset town of Sherborne closed for one hour on Tuesday (26 February) in protest of a plan to open a Tesco supermarket in the village.

Signs in shop windows read: "CLOSED DOWN FOR HOUR BUT IT COULD BE LONGER (OR PERMANENT) IF TESCO COMES TO TOWN".

Even a local horse got involved with a coat emblazoned with the message "no thanks Tesco".

As well as the shops closing, dozens of people gathered in the town to send a clear signal to the supermarket giant, which is clearly unwelcome. (NewsPoint)

UK's AAA credit rating downgraded by Moody's

Moody's Investors Service is the first to cut the UK's top AAA credit rating down a notch to Aa1, based on its expectation that growth will "remain sluggish over the next few years".

Moody's said that the UK's huge debts were unlikely to reverse until 2016 and that the country's debt reduction programme faced "challenges" ahead.

Fellow agency Standard & Poor's in December became the last of the three main rating agencies to put the UK's top AAA rating on "negative outlook" and said it may lower its rating if the UK's economy worsened.

Germany and Canada are the...

A woman in her 50s working full-time currently earns £11.99 per hour – 18 per cent less hour than a man of a similar age (£14.69...
