The Department for Work and Pensions has announced that the Secretary of State has decided to drop his pursuit of an appeal at the Supreme Court on a case he had lost at the Court of Appeal.

Appeal to help locate missing Launceston woman

Police in Launceston are appealing for information to help trace a missing woman.

Joy Grigg, aged 50, was reported missing from her home at Tregeare near Launceston since early this morning (Wednesday 13 March). Joy is described as being a white woman, approximately 5’ 2” in height, medium build with light brown hair. She is believed to be wearing a nightdress with possibly a light blue coat and black ankle boots. Murder investigation launched in Plymouth after man's body discovered

Update: Formal identification has now been carried out and the deceased has been named as Keith Dance aged 33 years who lived on Molesworth Road in the Stoke area of Plymouth.

Jacqueline Cooke aged 29 of Victoria Place and Ian Gollop aged 50 of Molesworth Road – both Stoke addresses - have been charged with the murder of Keith Dance. They are both due to appear at Plymouth Magistrates’ Court tomorrow morning, Thursday 14 March.

Chris Huhne and Vicky Pryce both jailed for eight months

Former Energy minister Chris Huhne and his former wife Vicky Pryce have each been jailed for eight months for lying about a speeding offence committed ten years ago.

The pair, sentenced at Southwark Crown Court today (11 March), did not look at each other and remained passive as first Huhne and then Pryce learned the result of the court case.

Huhne received a 10% reduction in his sentence because he pleaded guilty.

Today Age UK launched a definitive report into the lives and health of people over 85, the fastest growing demographic group in the UK redefining the frontiers of human existence.

People over the age of 85 are now the fastest growing demographic group in the UK. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) estimates there are currently 1.5 million people in the UK over the age of 85; by 2050 this will have grown to 5 million.

European survey aims to gauge perceptions of marine litter

Scientists are launching a Europe-wide survey which aims to provide the first detailed insight into people’s perceptions of marine litter.

The survey, being conducted by Plymouth University, will assess how people’s attitudes towards the impacts and the potential solutions to this growing environmental problem vary between countries and between those who manufacture, sell, use or dispose of the numerous items which can become marine litter.

Sudden death of 21-year-old woman in Plymouth

Shortly after 7am on Sunday 10 March 2013, police attended an address in Randolph Close, Plymouth. A 21-year-old female named Jenny Launder was found dead at the address.

A forensic post mortem has been completed due to the nature of the scene. The initial findings of the post mortem would indicate that the death is no longer deemed as suspicious albeit the investigation is continuing jointly with HM Coroner.
