UK disposable income on the rise

Britons have seen a three percentage point rise in their disposable income over the last quarter, according to a new report out today. On average, people in the UK now have eight per cent of their take home salary left each month, up from five per cent since last quarter.

The findings come from the latest Disposable Income Index from ISA provider Scottish Friendly, which examines people’s attitude towards saving and investing. Extra funding for families with special educational needs

Councils across the South West are to receive a share of over £4.3 million in new funding to help prepare for the biggest transformation of Special Educational Needs and disabilities support in over thirty years. The new money will support councils in giving young people and parents greater say over their personalised care and assistance. It will also put in place a new birth-to-25 system for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and disabilities.

World Cup domestic violence warning

The Home Office and The Association of Chief Police Officers are warning football supporters of harsh consequences if their World Cup celebrations turn sour.

From now until mid July, a poster and online advertising campaign will be used to communicate important messages about domestic violence to men aged 18 to 35.

All advertising will direct men to the Respect website and phone helpline for advice and support (0808 802 4040).

Independent developer C G Fry & Son opened its new show home on the award-winning Tisbury development, Wyndham Place to coincide with South Wiltshire’s ‘Green Open Home’ initiative. Local site manager Adrian White won the Seal of Excellence for Wyndham Place, his first site for C G Fry earlier this year.

Comedian and actor Rik Mayall dies

Comedian and actor Rik Mayall died this morning, a spokesman for his management company, Brunskill Management, said today.

The star, who shot to fame playing Rick in The Young Ones, was 56 and his career included appearances in shows including Blackadder and Bottom. His film roles included the comedies Drop Dead Fred and Guest House Paradiso.

Rik, who has a home in Devon, was made an Honorary Graduate of the University of Exeter in 2008.
