Eight people have today been arrested after a series of successful warrants were carried out in Plymouth and Cornwall as part of a major investigation into human trafficking and modern slavery. Search warrants were executed this morning, Tuesday 16 September, under the Immigration and Asylum Act at five properties in Plymouth and one address in Bodmin. Kate pregnant with second child

The Duchess of Cambridge is pregnant with her second child it was confirmed today.

Kensington Palace said that, as when she was pregnant with Prince George, the duchess was suffering from very acute morning sickness (hyperemesis gravidarum) and was being treated by doctors at the palace.

High costs put people off higher education

An educational charity have outlined that the high cost of further education has prevented almost half of UK adults gaining advance qualifications.

This comes as figures show that the average graduate debt is now £53,000 after tuition fees rose in September 2012.

The NCFE (Northern Council for Further Education) surveyed 2,000 adults across the UK and found that being too old (36%) and family commitments (24%) were also factors when deciding to undertake a further education course.

Experts at leading wealth manager Brewin Dolphin warn that many self-employed workers are not taking advantage of all the tax allowances they can, particularly those ‘olderpreneurs’ who have become self-employed later in life.

Hospitals ordered to give the seriously ill parking concessions

Hospitals must offer free or cut-price parking to the seriously ill, the Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt will say today.

Meanwhile cowboy parking operators can no longer be allowed to impose huge fines for minor infringements.

The Highways Agency will be helping holidaymakers have happy holidays by keeping traffic moving over the August bank holiday weekend, ensuring that 98 per cent of England’s motorways and other major roads are free of roadworks. Around 164 miles of roadworks will be completed before the August bank holiday weekend and 110 miles will be suspended between Friday 22 August and Tuesday 26 August, providing extra lane capacity for holiday traffic.
