Two pupils at a Tiverton school have been shortlisted for the 2015 Student of the Year Awards, a national programme to recognise talent and hard work and celebrate success.

Chris Hamilton and Natalie Cotton, both aged 17 and pupils at Blundell’s School, have been shortlisted in the Science and Engineering category and will attend the awards ceremony in London next month, when the winners of the first Student of the Year Awards will be announced.

Student support now essential at universities

Over a third (34%) of current students and graduates have said they based their university choice on student engagement levels and student satisfaction, according to a new study.

New research released today by the new car buying and selling website Carfused.com reveals just how dirty the nation’s cars really are. Ben Kosky a final year student at the University of Exeter Business School has been named Intern of the Year by Microsoft UK. Ben was up against very tough competition, which included 125 other hopeful candidates from across the UK. Mongooses prove selfishness lasts a lifetime

Researchers studying wild banded mongooses in Uganda have discovered that these small mammals have either cooperative or selfish personalities which last for their entire lifetime. The findings of the 15-year study are published today in the journal Animal Behaviour.

The researchers investigated the selfish behaviour of mongoose mate-guarding – where dominant males guard particular females – and the cooperative behaviour of ‘babysitting’ and ‘escorting’ the young.

Host families needed in Devon

A Devon-based work placement company is seeking host families for international trainees as it prepares for its busiest summer yet.

The Training Partnership (TTPL) is welcoming more than 240 trainees to the county in July, and another 300 from August to October, with a need for host families in Exeter, Torbay and across South Devon for this summer, autumn and beyond.

A group of high achieving sixth form students from Devon, Cornwall and Somerset, have graduated from a national project which aims to raise aspirations and the confidence of young people to pursue a career in law.

Twenty six students from the region participated in the University of Exeter strand of the Pathways to Law programme. They received a certificate of achievement on Wednesday 1 July at a celebratory event to herald their success in completing the programme. Art Show success for Exeter School artists

Exeter School’s Art Department is delighted to announce that two A Level Art pupils were prize winners at ‘The Exeter Art Show’ held on 4 and 5 July at The Maynard School.

Miles Johal in the Lower Sixth was awarded first prize for his semi-abstract acrylic painting of architectural features, winning £250.

Miles visited the exhibition on Saturday and said: “it was a lovely surprise to discover that I had won the prize, particularly given the wide range and high standard of pupil work on display.”
