4,199 children in Exeter join WWF’s Earth Hour

4,199 pupils across 14 schools in the Exeter area have already signed up to support WWF’s Earth Hour.

In fact, in the last five years alone, over two million pupils aged 7 to 14 across the UK have taken part in the world’s largest demonstration of support for action on climate change.

With more schools than ever before getting involved this year, including St Sidwell's CE Primary School & Nursery, The Maynard School and Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education, the 10th anniversary of Earth Hour is set to be the biggest yet.

Devon pupils visit Spain as part of innovating Erasmus+ project

Offwell Primary from Honiton, Redhills Primary in Exeter and the ACE MAT were successful in gaining Erasmus+ funding to participate in an Erasmus + project which will be led by CEIP Andrés García Soler from Lorca, Spain.

This project, therefore, includes these two Primary schools from Devon, the MAT, the Spanish school, Scuola Padre Pio from Altamura, Italy and Rigas Classical Gymnasium from Latvia as well as Nebrija University from Madrid.

Exeter College celebrates exceptional apprentices and employers

Exeter College has held its Annual Awards celebrating apprentices and honouring the employers that support the work of the college’s award winning apprenticeship programme.

More than 150 Apprentices, employers from around the region, key business leaders, friends and family attended the glittered awards ceremony held at Sandy Park.

Foot Anstey kindly sponsored the awards ceremony hosted at the home of Exeter Chiefs, Sandy Park, Exeter. The evening saw the achievements of 12 apprentice award winners and six employer winners celebrated.

Interactive whiteboard opens Princetown Primary School’s eyes to the world

A brand new interactive whiteboard, donated to Princetown Primary School by the Dartmoor Classic cycle sportive, is set to open the eyes of pupils this year when it’s used for a series of live broadcasts with groups around the world. Exeter Junior School launches Project 500 for World Book Day

In honour of World Book Day, Exeter Junior School's librarians launched 'Project 500' an exciting reading initiative that promotes Science reading for pleasure.

The librarians introduced a whole selection of newly purchased Science books that have been given pride of place in our library this week and are available to borrow straight away.

Pupil librarian Alex Leaver (U1B) explained: "Science books tell us a great deal about the world around us and they can be very interesting - and fun - to read."

Junior School sings and signs raising over £200 for deaf health charity

Exeter Junior School pupils performed a special song composed in support of Sign Health and raised over £200 for the deaf health charity.

Not only did pupils sing the song fantastically well they also simultaneously signed it, using international sign language.

The song, entitled 'Together', conveys the message that it is through working together and supporting one another that we make the world a better place.

Music teacher Tina Guthrie said pupils worked on the singing and the signing in their music lessons.

Exeter School pupil elected for UK Youth Parliament

Exeter School pupil Zachary Marsh has been elected Member of Youth Parliament for Exeter for the next two years. The Lower Sixth Former's election campaign included making presentations at local schools and clubs. As part of his role Zachary will join all UK Youth Parliament members in the House of Commons for two debates on matters concerning young people during his term in office.

Zachary said it was an honour and a privilege to be elected by young people in Exeter to be their Member of Youth Parliament.

Exeter City coach kicks off training at Exeter School

Exeter Junior School's U11A football team was delighted to welcome Exeter City Football Club Football in the Community Coach Pete Eveleigh.

The Premier League Kicks Coordinator gave a masterclass to the Year 6 pupils as preparation for the Regional Kids' Cup Football Finals which take place on Monday 27 February at Adams Park, the home of Wycombe Wanderers FC.

The boys practised attack and defence skills as well as retaining possession in different areas of the pitch.

Third time lucky for Exeter School equestrians

Exeter School equestrians are celebrating a second team entry into the National Schools Equestrian Association (NSEA) Finals at Hickstead plus an individual pupil qualified for the prestigious Arena Eventing Competition.

Megan Bailey, Alice Bailey, Olivia Eden and Izzy Kekwick competed in the 80/85cm class at Bicton on 11 February coming second out of 60 individual competitors. This qualifies them for the Finals in May.

Exeter Junior School pupil Eliza Heard was successful in the 70/75cm individual class and her second place also puts her into the National Finals.

‘Mood boosting’ books for Cranbrook Education Campus

Pupils at Cranbrook Education Campus are relishing new books for their library, provided through Cranbrook’s Healthy Town scheme which is funded by NHS England’s Healthy New Town programme.

The thirty seven new arrivals for secondary school aged children, valued around £240, cover the Reading Well Mood-Boosting Book lists chosen by and for young people. The Reading Well Mood-Boosting Books scheme, run by the Reading Agency, is described as a national promotion of uplifting titles, including novels, poetry and non-fiction.
