Pellow to leave Chiefs after 16 seasons

Ricky Pellow has made the decision to leave the Exeter Chiefs coaching team after 16 seasons to spend more time with his family and explore other career opportunities.

The proud Cornishman joined Chiefs in 2009 as skills coach after retiring from his playing career during which he played scrum-half for Cornish Pirates and Worcester Warriors.

Pellow said: “I’ve had 16 amazing years here at the club, so it’s an emotional decision to leave but it is one that enables me and my family to experience a new adventure.

“I’ve made some unbelievable memories as a Chief....

Otter Garden Centres has sponsored additional club shirts for Ottery St Mary Table Tennis Club after the club experienced unexpected growth.

The garden centre helped with new shirts for the existing three teams in 2017 - but after more players signed up, the club realised it needed more.

Presenting the extra shirts to the club, Otter Garden Centres Manager John Giblin said: “It’s a pleasure to provide ongoing support to the club in this way – we’re delighted that so many new players have joined over the past year.”

The club, which has been in existence in the town...

Exeter Chiefs rediscovered their winning formula for the first time in a month, but they were made to fight all the way in the defence of their Premiership Rugby Cup crown by visiting Bath Rugby.

Halloween may have been at the start of the week, but Ricky Pellow's side were given a second half fright as the visitors produced a powerful fightback to leave the majority inside Sandy Park sweating until the final whistle.

The Chiefs had looked good value up until the hour mark, leading through tries from James Short, Ollie Devoto and Tom O’Flaherty and the boot of full-back Joe...

Grecians beaten at Prenton Park

Exeter City fell to a 2-0 defeat away from home against Tranmere Rovers in Sky Bet League Two.

James Norwood notched his first of the afternoon with a cool header after 30 minutes before he doubled Rovers' lead 15 minutes into the second half.

City then had to finish the game with 10 men following Dean Moxey's red card after 70 minutes. The Grecians had spells where they looked like scoring, but were unable to find their way past Scott Davies in the Tranmere goal.

Matt Taylor made two changes to the side that were beaten by Forest Green Rovers last weekend as...

Ricky Pellow says Exeter Chiefs must make the most of home advantage in this next fortnight, if they are to keep alive their dreams of retaining the Premiership Rugby Cup. The holders kicked off their campaign with a 22-22 draw away to Newcastle Falcons last Sunday, a result which - according to skills coach Pellow - offered both positives and negatives for the Devon club when he was picked through by the coaching team this week. Down 22-10 entering into the final quarter at Kingston Park, the Chiefs dug deep into their reserves to fashion a determined fightback that yielded two tries and...

The Haldon Gold Cup – a jewel in Devon’s sporting crown

If being part of the big occasion is what sport is about, Exeter is the place to head on Haldon Gold Cup Day. The great Desert Orchid, the brilliant Viking Flagship, the dazzling Cue Card and the irreplaceable Kauto Star – they’ve all leapt around Exeter’s fences in their quest for glory.

First run as a weight-for-age race in 1982, the Haldon Gold Cup gained listed status in 1985. Fast, furious and spectacular it is run over two-mile one-furlong and with £62,500 in prize money it’s one that trainers make an early season target.

The roll call of winners is impressive,...

Chiefs fight back after Halloween scare

Wing wizard Zach Kibirige looked to have cast the perfect spell over Exeter on his 24th birthday, only for the Chiefs to play party-poopers with a stunning second half fightback.

The Newcastle Falcons flyer helped himself to a hat-trick of tries at Kingston Park, weaving his magic with some fancy footwork and a turn of speed that at times left the Devonians clutching at straws.

However, his masterly on-field craft was sadly not enough in the end as last season’s Cup winners rallied defiantly to claim a share of the spoils thanks in the main to tries from Max Bodilly (2) and...

The Grecians' unbeaten run comes to an end

Exeter City's 11 match unbeaten run was brought to an end as they fell to a 2-1 defeat against Forest Green Rovers at St James Park.

Reece Brown found the net early in the second half with a good finish before Liam Shephard made the points safe for the away side. Aaron Martin found the net in bizzarre circumstances when goalkeeper Robert Sanchez miskicked a clearance in the dying moments of the game.

Grecians’ boss Matt Taylor made two changes to the starting eleven from Tuesday’s draw against Crawley, with Jayden Stockley returning to fitness in place of Matt Jay, while...

Exeter Chiefs have agreed to release Michele Campagnaro from his playing contract with the Gallagher Premiership club from October 31. The Italian international, who joined the club in the summer of 2015 from Benetton Treviso, will then become a free agent. The 25-year-old back, who was part of the match-day 23 when the Chiefs won the Aviva Premiership title in 2017, has made 27 first team appearances during his time at Sandy Park, scoring nine tries in the process.

Crawley Town 1 City 1

Lee Holmes strikes late to gives City a deserved point and stretched their unbeaten run to 11 games in all competitions as they put in a high-energy, battling display at Crawley Town to take a point.

The hosts, who had won six out of their eight Sky Bet League Two homes games this season, took the lead just after the hour mark when Filipe Morais curled home a shot from just inside the box but Matt Taylor’s men battled back superbly to level through Lee Holmes and came closest to winning the match late on when Lee Martin had an effort cleared off the line.

City manager Matt...
