Exeter Chiefs chairman says new American owners will bring ‘razzmatazz’ to rugby union

Exeter Chiefs chairman Tony Rowe believes that the club’s impending takeover by an American consortium could transform the Gallagher Premiership.

The billionaire owners of English Premier League club Bournemouth have agreed a deal for the club, subject to the membership’s approval at an extraordinary general meeting on May 7.

If the deal is ratified, Exeter Chiefs will become the latest Premiership team alongside Newcastle and Bath to secure major new investment.

No goals but plenty of excitement at St James Park

Exeter City boss Paul Tisdale was pleased with his side’s battling qualities after a goalless draw against Aldershot on Saturday afternoon.

On a pitch that had suffered in the winter months, the playing surface wasn’t ideal for a free-flowing game and that hampered City’s opportunities to pass the ball around on the deck. And with the Grecians kicking towards the Away Terrace in the first half – with the sun glaring into their eyes when they attacked – the environment didn’t favour City in the opening period. “It was incredibly difficult conditions, we played against 11 very tough...

Exeter City can confirm that midfielder Elliott Frear has extended his loan with Salisbury City until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old initially joined the Whites on loan at the end of October, and has helped them to command the top spot in the Blue Square Bet South. His goal against Staines Town two weeks ago was his first for the club, putting Salisbury on course to a 3-1 win.

And now the winger is set to remain at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium until the end of the 2012/13 campaign, as the Whites – who were only promoted from the Southern League in 2011 – look to gain...

Exeter manager Paul Tisdale is pleased that his team hasn’t been disrupted by bids from rival clubs for any of his star players.

With the January transfer window closing this evening, and the inevitable clock-watching by fans of every team across the country, a lack of activity has been welcomed by Tis. Myles Anderson and Mark Molesley have bolstered an already-strong squad this window, and thankfully there have been no departures from St James Park.

“Fortunately, we’ve had no offers for players,” said Tis. “I was hoping that we wouldn’t have a late offer and then a period of...

Exeter City’s unbeaten record in 2013 came to an end at the hands of local rivals Torquay United at St James Park. An early penalty by Rene Howe set the Gulls on their way, as the visitors settled early.

City pressed and pressed in the closing stages but an equaliser just wouldn’t materialise as the Gulls’ defence held out resolutely to claim the win. Paul Tisdale made four changes to his starting line-up for the second in a double-header of Devon Derbies against Torquay United. Jimmy Keohane , Alan Gow and Matt Oakley all returned to the XI, whilst Mark Molesley was given a debut...

Exeter City forward off to spend a month at Bath

Exeter City forward Elliott Chamberlain has joined Bath City on a month-long loan deal.

Chamberlain, whose wages at St James Park are paid by the 1931 Fund (a group of supporters who every year opt to fund a players’ wages), has been progressing well in training, and now has the opportunity to play more first-team football over the next four weeks with the Romans.

He will be available for tomorrow night’s fixture against Welling at Twerton Park, before Staines are the visitors on Saturday – and a total of nine fixtures are scheduled for Bath in the coming month. City...

More teams needed for New Futsal League

Exeter’s first ever futsal league has got off to a flying start - so much so that a new league is starting next month after much interest was shown in the short taster league, which finishes soon.

The competition has been set up to raise awareness of the benefits of playing futsal as opposed to traditional five-a-side football, and the Football in the Community Charity is looking for more five-a-side teams to join the men’s league in Exeter.

The new season will be starting on Sunday 10 February at St James High School in Summer Lane...

Undone by the Irish last week, Exeter Chiefs saw their LV= Cup suffer a blow as another foe from the Emerald Isle proved decisive.

Brought in by Bath earlier in the week on a short-term deal until the end of the season, Irish international Peter Stringer proved the significant difference in this entertaining Westcountry battle at the Recreation Ground.
