Exeter Chiefs chairman says new American owners will bring ‘razzmatazz’ to rugby union

Exeter Chiefs chairman Tony Rowe believes that the club’s impending takeover by an American consortium could transform the Gallagher Premiership.

The billionaire owners of English Premier League club Bournemouth have agreed a deal for the club, subject to the membership’s approval at an extraordinary general meeting on May 7.

If the deal is ratified, Exeter Chiefs will become the latest Premiership team alongside Newcastle and Bath to secure major new investment.

Grecians make light work of Bluebirds

Report by Richard Dorman

The Grecians ended pre-season in forceful fashion with a 7-1 victory away at Chippenham Town.

Goals by Jake Gosling, Matt Jay (twice), Tom Nichols, Jimmy Keohane, Ollie Watkins and Jordan Tillson made light work of the Bluebirds – despite City only leading 1-0 into the final period.

The hosts had in fact themselves levelled through Isaac Reid, before the Grecians opened the floodgates.

City took a young side to Hardenhuish Park for the final pre-season fixture at Chippenham Town. Jacob Wannell took on the captain’s duties, whilst...

Shoemark puts in the hard yards

Pre-season maybe a necessary evil for all professional sportsmen, but Exeter Chiefs star Jason Shoemark insists the hard work that is put in now will ensure rewards are reaped later in the season.

Shoemark is set to embark on his fourth season with the Devon club and the New Zealander is clearly relishing the challenge that lies in store for both himself and his team-mates at Sandy Park.

The 32-year-old centre, who joined the Chiefs in 2010 from Super 15 outfit Highlanders, has proved an instant hit since arriving on English soil and has played a key role in Exeter's...

Ricky Pellow believes the standard of the JP Morgan Asset Management Premiership Rugby 7s is rising each year and is expecting another top tournament when it officially gets underway this Thursday at Gloucester's Kingsholm Stadium.

The Exeter Chiefs skills coach will again be in charge of the Devon club as they take part in the opening round of the competition against hosts Gloucester, Bath and Worcester Warriors.

And ahead of the big kick-off, Pellow insists the Chiefs view the competition as a key pre-season tool and will look to use this week's games as the foundation...

Swansea allow Exeter to keep all gate receipts at upcoming friendly

Exeter City Chief Executive Julian Tagg has given his thanks to Swansea City for allowing the Grecians to keep all the gate receipts from the upcoming friendly fixture at the Park on Sunday – and is urging fans to come along to enjoy the match and help the club financially. In normal circumstances, it is commonplace for teams to share the proceeds of the gate in cup and friendly fixtures. However in this instance, Swansea have magnanimously allowed Exeter City to keep the gate takings – therefore meaning that every pound that is paid on the day will be of benefit to the club. The Swans...

Newcomer Don Armand has spoken of his "excitement" at the challenge that lies ahead after he completed his move to Aviva Premiership side Exeter Chiefs. The 24-year-old forward has agreed a two-year contract and joins the Devon club from South African Super 15 outfit Stormers.
