Why More Players Are Taking Up Padel

Padel is growing quickly because it is easy to start, social by design, and physically active without feeling intimidating. It combines elements of tennis and squash, but the smaller court, enclosed walls, and underhand serve make it more accessible for beginners.

Players do not need years of technical training to enjoy their first match. Rallies last longer, movement is more controlled, and doubles play makes the game feel more cooperative.

For people looking for a sport that supports fitness, competition, and social connection, padel offers a practical entry point....

Phillips to repay the faith shown in him by the Exeter Chiefs coaching staff

By Mark Stevens

James Phillips says he is ready to repay the faith shown in him by the Exeter Chiefs coaching staff as he looks to play a key role for the Aviva Premiership club this season. Having seen his campaign last season blighted by a knee injury sustained in the home game with Saracens, the imposing forward is now back to full fitness and keen to make up for lost time.

The Bristol-born star featured for 40 minutes in Exeter’s 23-15 friendly win at Scarlets last weekend and he will get another run out against his hometown club in this weekend’s latest pre-season game...

Scarlets 15 Exeter Chiefs 23

Exeter Chiefs kicked-off their pre-season programme on a high note as they overcame Welsh outfit Scarlets at the Parc Y Scarlets.

In the first of three friendlies for Rob Baxter’s side ahead of their Aviva Premiership opener at Northampton Saints on 7 September, the Chiefs produced a solid display in the Principality.

Tries from locks Damian Welch and Will Carrick-Smith, together with successful kicks from Gareth Steenson and Henry Slade, were certainly the highlights for the visitors, but Baxter will also have...

Report: Exeter City 2 AFC Wimbledon 0

Two John O’Flynn first half goals settled this attractive SkyBet League Two fixture at a damp St James Park.

On a day when the club celebrated the historic links with Brazil fittingly in front of Brazilian TV cameras, the weather was not at all Brazilian but the football at times approached it. It could be said that, with City in yellow shirts for the day, it was almost like watching Brazil!

Manager, Paul Tisdale, surprised the SJP faithful by handing a debut to first year pro, Matt Grimes, and there was also a welcome return to...

The Premier League returns with some new old faces

Although it never really goes away, the Premier League returns to action today (Saturday 17 August) as the new season kicks off with the lunchtime fixture between Liverpool and Stoke City.

Notwithstanding the summer's intriguing - some would say tedious - ongoing transfer business, the top division will have a new look; not just via BT Sport's shared coverage with Sky but with new faces at the helm of last seaon's top three clubs.

David Moyes steps into Sir Alex Ferguson's shoes - a daunting task, but one the former Everton manager will relish. Manchester United have yet to...

Exeter City to work hard for a win on ‘Brazil Day’ match against AFC Wimbledon

For all the carnival-type festivities that are going along with Exeter City’s ‘Brazil Day’ match against AFC Wimbledon this weekend, it’ll be important to not detract from the small matter of three points at stake.

Both teams enter with an identical record in the opening exchanges – a win and a draw apiece to begin the Sky Bet League 2 campaign, and a proverbial ‘early bath’ from the Capital One Cup.

If the fixture is anything like the last encounter between the Grecians and the Dons, then it won’t be for the faint-hearted. A 2-2 draw at Kingsmeadow back in April – which...

Exeter Chiefs set for Scarlets test

Having put in the hard yards off the field during a gruelling pre-season programme, it's on-field matters that take centre stage for the Exeter Chiefs tomorrow as the countdown to the new season edges ever closer.

This weekend Rob Baxter's side travel to Wales to face Scarlets in their opening pre-season fixture at the Parc Y Scarlets (3pm). It represents the first of three warm-up clashes for the Devon club - Bristol and Glasgow Warriors follow over the next two weeks – before they engage in their fourth season of Aviva Premiership action at Northampton Saints on Saturday,...

Continued improvement from the Spitfires

The Exeter Spitfires have continued to improve as their inaugural season in the South West Baseball League is approaching the finish. The Spitfires took on the Torbay Barons for a double header recently at Chadwick Field. The Spitfires, behind good pitching and some excellent hitting, including the first home runs for the club, managed to win both games.

In a back and forth battle in the opening game the Spitfires eventually came through 23-18 winners. In game two, after initially allowing the Barons to jump into an 8-0 lead, the Spitfires fought back strongly for a convincing 29-...
