Exeter Chiefs chairman says new American owners will bring ‘razzmatazz’ to rugby union

Exeter Chiefs chairman Tony Rowe believes that the club’s impending takeover by an American consortium could transform the Gallagher Premiership.

The billionaire owners of English Premier League club Bournemouth have agreed a deal for the club, subject to the membership’s approval at an extraordinary general meeting on May 7.

If the deal is ratified, Exeter Chiefs will become the latest Premiership team alongside Newcastle and Bath to secure major new investment.

Chiefs flanker Ben White targets the Tigers

Aussie flanker Ben White says Exeter Chiefs cannot wait to get stuck into Leicester Tigers in their latest Aviva Premiership encounter this Sunday (2pm). Buoyed by back-to-back league wins over London Wasps and London Irish, the Chiefs are now busy preparing themselves for the visit of the defending champions to Sandy Park. It's a fixture which is sure to test the credentials of the Devon club - particularly given the currently visitors sit second in the standings - but White says recent form has given him and his team-mates a real belief they can topple Richard Cockerill's men. “The...

England selectors include three uncapped players in Ashes squad

England selectors have named a 17-man squad for the Ashes Test series in Australia including three players uncapped at Test level – Yorkshire batsman Gary Ballance, Warwickshire pace bowler Boyd Rankin and Durham all rounder Ben Stokes.

In total six players are included in the squad named on Monday (23 September) who did not feature in an XI during the recent 3-0 Investec Ashes series victory. Alongside the uncapped Test trio, Michael Carberry, Monty Panesar and Chris Tremlett have all been recalled.

Carberry has been capped once at Test level, making his debut in...

Rob Baxter praises Chiefs' character

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter praised the character of his team as they claimed their first away victory of the season with a 29-23 success at London Irish.

Training 23-12 with just 20 minutes remaining, the Chiefs produced a sterling fightback thanks to tries from skipper Dean Mumm and Ben White to ensure they were able to follow up last week's home win over London Wasps.

Fly-half Gareth Steenson converted both those scores, as well as adding five penalties, to give him a 19 point haul that took past 1,000 league points for the Devon club.

Grecians create plenty of chances but fall short

Report: Exeter City 0 Newport 2

Exeter City’s perfect home record in Sky Bet League 2 was ended at the hands of Newport County AFC, as the Exiles triumphed 2-0 at St James Park.

Conor Washington drilled in an opener midway through the first period, and despite chances being created by both sides in the meantime, it wasn’t until the 72nd minute that the Exiles sealed the win through a Harry Worley strike.

Sam Parkin was the notable omission for the Grecians, with a hamstring niggle keeping him sidelined. John O'Flynn, last weekend's match-winner, was named as the...

Chiefs name side to face London Irish

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter has challenged his side to "back up" last weekend's Aviva Premiership win over London Wasps by inflicting a similar outcome on tomorrow's hosts London Irish. Having come unstuck at Northampton Saints on the opening day, the Chiefs responded in fine fashion by seeing off Wasps 30-26 on their own Sandy Park turf thanks to tries from Tom James (2) and James Scaysbrook, as well as the boot of fly-half Gareth Steenson. A week on from that triumph, Baxter has been preparing his troops for their latest top flight battle at the Madejski Stadium - and has warned...

Spectators flooded to Exeter today to catch a glimpse of the Tour of Britain. The high street saw the five lead cyclists compete for points on the sprint before the peloton (main pack of riders) came past. Among the crowds, children from St Sidwell's Primary School lined up outside the school gates to cheer on the riders with a banner saying ‘Go Bradley’. On Topsham road parents and pupils from St Leonard's Primary School and the Exeter Academy for the Deaf also gave their support. The cyclists will continued through Devon before reaching the finish line atop Dartmoor.
