From St James Park to the Euros: Tracking Exeter City Academy Players on the International Stage

As Europe’s biggest stars regroup for international duty, national team rosters for Euro 2024 are filled with familiar names - few of which trace their beginnings to the lower tiers of English football.

Exeter City’s academy may not make headlines, but its graduates are making tournament squads. And while attention builds toward summer fixtures and early Champions League predictions on many of the most popular and secure betting platforms, another narrative deserves recognition: players who started at St James Park and are now representing their countries on the international...

Given the spectacular Twickenham stage to showcase their talents, Exeter Chiefs suffered a terrible bout of stage fright as rivals Harlequins stole the headlines in BIg Game 6.

Chiefs side to face Harlequins

As London readies itself for the annual New Year fireworks, so Exeter Chiefs will be hoping to create their own spectacular show in the nation's capital when they face Harlequins in tomorrow's Big Game 6 at Twickenham (4pm). Forget all the hype about X-Factor stars taking to the turf at the home of English Rugby pre-match, it's Devon's finest who will be aiming to take centre stage as they look to bag themselves a final Aviva Premiership win in 2013. In what has been another impressive 12 months for Rob Baxter's side, the need to keep pace with the division's frontrunners is paramount as...

Will Chudley says he and his Exeter Chiefs team-mates are relishing this weekend's crunch Big Game 6 encounter with Harlequins at a packed Twickenham Stadium.

With just a point and a place separating Harlequins in fourth and the fifth-placed Chiefs in the current Aviva Premiership standings, the talented scrum-half knows the importance of a big display at English Rugby HQ this weekend.

"It should be a fantastic occasion," said Chudley, who was part of the Exeter side that returned to winning ways last weekend with a 16-3 win over former club Newcastle Falcons. "For a lot of...

Curro scores as Grecians falter

Report: Cheltenham 1 Exeter City 0

Exeter fell to a single-goal defeat to Cheltenham Town at Whaddon Road on Boxing Day as the hosts were 1-0 winners.

The game followed the script that City fans didn’t want to read, as former Exeter striker Jamie Cureton was the man to net the only goal in the 13th minute.

City turned on the pressure in the second period and peppered Scott Brown’s goal, but the stopper was in fine form to keep out the waves of City attacks. Cureton also hit the post and Jermaine McGlashan couldn’t quite foil Artur Krysiak as the Grecians were also...

In the Exeter & District youth league under 11’s division two Central United showed real grit and determination to beat a physical Kentisbeare team 2-1 on Saturday. The first half saw some very nice football despite the boggy pitch and Central United took a deserved lead through a well worked goal by Andrew Lapworth. Francis Blewett was a constant threat down the right hand side and went close on several occasions before finding the back of the net to give the United boys a 2-0 lead, which was preserved until half time due to some superb goal keeping by Ollie Banwell.

It's back to business today for Exeter City

Preview: Cheltenham v Exeter City

To describe Cheltenham Town as Exeter City’s ‘bogey team’ would be selling it a little short.

The clubs have only met eight times throughout their history – mostly owing to the Robins only becoming a Football League club for the first time in 1999 – but Cheltenham have won every single fixture.

The first meeting came on Boxing Day in 1999, when a goal midway through the second period by Jon Gittens was scant consolation, as the hosts had raced to a three-goal lead at Whaddon Road before half-time.

The Grecians have scored...

Prop Ben Moon says last Saturday's 16-3 victory over Newcastle Falcons has given the Exeter Chiefs the ideal lift heading into this weekend's crunch Aviva Premiership encounter with Harlequins.

After a run of five successive league and cup defeats, the Chiefs rediscovered their winning touch thanks to a Haydn Thomas try and 11 points from the boot of leading points-scorer Gareth Steenson.

The victory - Exeter's sixth in the top flight this season - helped Rob Baxter's side rise to fifth in the standings, just a point adrift of Harlequins, who provide the latest hurdle for...

Irish fly-half Gareth Steenson admitted it was important for the Exeter Chiefs to rediscover their winning formula ahead of what is a crucial festive period for the club in the Aviva Premiership.

Winless in their five previous fixtures heading into last weekend, Rob Baxter's side not only defied the atrocious wintry conditions at Sandy Park, but also visiting Newcastle Falcons, to record their sixth victory in the top flight this term.

Steenson - back in the Chiefs line-up having missed the previous week's Heineken Cup fixture with RC Toulon due to a shoulder injury -...

Chiefs defeat Falcons

Exeter Chiefs 16 Newcastle Falcons 9

Exeter Chiefs have played better this season and lost, yet this return to winning ways against Newcastle Falcons was not only welcome, but provided Rob Baxter and his team with the ideal lift ahead of the Christmas period.

Back amongst the Aviva Premiership’s top five, the Chiefs not only overcame the horrid Westcountry weather, but also a stubborn Falcons side to record their sixth league win of the season.

Eleven points from the boot of master marksman Gareth Steenson, together with a try from half-back partner Haydn Thomas,...

Report: Exeter City 0 Chesterfield 2

The Grecians slipped to a 2-0 defeat at St James at the hands of Chesterfield, as the visitors went to the top of the Sky Bet League 2 table.

The scoring was opened by Ollie Banks mere minutes after the restart after the break, as the midfielder – who had been announced as League 2 Player of the Month earlier in the day – headed in Callum McFadzean’s corner.

Banks turned provider for the Spireites’ second midway through the second half as he slotted in Marc Richards who stepped round a defender and slotted in.

Following two goals against Accrington, 20-year...
