Head coach Rob Baxter believes Ceri Sweeney has a key role to play within the Exeter Chiefs make-up after he today agreed terms on a new one-year deal with the Aviva Premiership club.

The experienced 34-year-old fly-half is the latest Chief to commit his future to the Devon club, whom he joined last summer after five seasons playing in the Welsh capital with the Cardiff Blues.

Sweeney's decision to extend his stay at Sandy Park is not only a welcome boost for Baxter, but will ensure the Chiefs have plenty of options in the crucial No.10 jersey along with Gareth Steenson and...

Grecians create chances but no goals

Report: Exeter City 0 Wycombe 1

Exeter City were on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline for the second time in four days as Wycombe Wanderers left St James Park with all three points.

Max Kretzschmar, who scored to earn the Chairboys a win over Sky Bet League 2 leaders Chesterfield on Saturday, was the match-winner again, this time with a special lob over Christy Pym from 35 yards.

For the second successive Tuesday, Paul Tisdale and his Exeter City players had a rearranged League 2 fixture at St James Park. After Morecambe were the visitors last week, Gareth Ainsworth...

Monday night wins for EGCC's tennis first teams

Monday was a good night for Exeter Golf and Country Club’s men's and ladies tennis first teams.

The men beat Kingsteignton 8-1 thanks to a fantastic 15-13 win in a championship tie-break for John Wilton-Davies and Tim Agutter, coming from 9-4 down to clinch the deciding set.

Exeter Golf and Country Club’s first pair Adam Tapp and James Temple also continued their record of not having dropped a set this season.

The Exeter Golf and Country Club ladies also had a successful evening.

They led Ottery St Mary 7-0 when bad weather intervened. Catherine Hayman and...

Central United under 11's unfortunate to only draw

Central United 2 v 2 Tiverton Youth A close fought match on Saturday 22 February saw Central United unlucky not to get all 3 points having been 2-0 up and seemingly in full control of the game well into the second half. Tiverton showed great resilience and perseverance to keep at it and were rewarded with 2 goals to even the score, and send both sides home with equal points.

No doubt the lack of recent matches for United showed in the first 15 minutes as the boys looked a bit ragged and disorganised. They then found their rhythm in the second 15 of the half with some lovely...

Hard work is the key, says Mumm

Aussie international Dean Mumm says Exeter Chiefs must continue to keep working hard in their bid to rediscover their winning touch in the Aviva Premiership.

Sunday's 23-10 loss at Saracens not only gave Rob Baxter's side an unwanted hat-trick of losses against the division's top three in as many weeks, but also condemned the Chiefs to a seventh league loss in eight starts.

With London Irish next on the agenda at Sandy Park this Saturday (3pm), Mumm is hoping a return to home comforts will help re-ignite the Chiefs after a testing few weeks.

"There are positives to...

Chiefs unsuccesful in Saracens match

Saracens 23 Exeter Chiefs 10

There was no fat lady singing on this occasion – instead we had a Marilyn Monroe tribute act to contend with - but Exeter Chiefs’ latest outing to Allianz Park again hit a bum note.

Having come unstuck against both Northampton Saints and Bath in the past fortnight, Rob Baxter’s side made it an unwanted hat-trick of losses against the Aviva Premiership’s top three as hosts Saracens produced a powerful second half display to seal victory.

A converted try from hooker Schalk Brits, together with three penalties from the boot of fly-half...

Exeter City had shots but no goals in home defeat

Report: Exeter City 0 Rochdale 1

Exeter City fell to a 1-0 defeat against Rochdale at St James Park.

It was a goal by Jamie Allen on the stroke of half-time that proved the difference between the two teams – both teams had more chances to find the net but the visitors travelled back to Lancashire with all three points.

There were two changes for the Grecians from the midweek meeting against Morecambe as an Irish duo led the line to begin. Jimmy Keohane and John O’Flynn were recalled into the starting XI, with Eliot Richards and Tom Nichols primed amongst the subs...

Vainikolo out to make his mark

Tongan star Fetu’u Vainikolo will be out to make his mark when Exeter Chiefs tackle Saracens in the Aviva Premiership tomorrow (3.15pm).

The 29-year-old winger is set to make only his second top flight start as he is one of two inclusions Rob Baxter has made to the Chiefs starting XV ahead of their trip to Allianz Park.

Vainikolo – who was signed last summer from Irish side Connacht – comes in for Tom James on the wing, whilst Henry Slade’s inclusion in the centre means Phil Dollman reverts to full-back at the expense of Luke Arscott.

The opportunity, however, is...

Rob Baxter names Chiefs side to face Saracens

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter believes some tough talking behind the scenes at Sandy Park this week will hopefully have the desired effect as his side look to return to winning ways in the Aviva Premiership against Saracens on Sunday (3.15pm).

After narrow back-to-back home defeats against Northampton Saints and Bath, Baxter admitted he had been left "frustrated" by his side's displays and that certain issues needed to be addressed.

"I don't mind admitting that there has been a huge amount of frustration around the place following the last couple of results," said...
