Torquay visit Exeter City needing a win to survive!

Preview: Exeter City v Torquay United

It isn’t as if a derby match needs much extra incentive – but the stakes when Exeter City host Torquay United on Easter Monday are positively huge.

We have seen teams come to St James Park and sit behind the ball and play without committing to attack – but for the Gulls, anything other than a win will mean relegation.

Torquay need to win all three of their remaining games, including this derby match, to stand any chance of surviving in Sky Bet League 2 this season. And, even if they were to complete a miraculous effort to secure...

Chiefs battle for European place goes down to the wire

Whilst thoughts of a potential end-of-season European Play-Off may have occupied the thoughts of many Exeter Chiefs supporters in the past week, head coach Rob Baxter insists he and his team are focused solely on today's visit of Sale Sharks in the Aviva Premiership (3pm).

With the new-look format finally sorted for next season and beyond, the Chiefs are well aware that the battle to get amongst Europe's elite is going to go to the wire over these final three rounds.

After successive losses to both Leicester Tigers and Gloucester, Baxter's side positioned themselves back...

Exeter City share the points at Chesterfield

Report: Chesterfield 1 Exeter City 1

Exeter City and Chesterfield shared the points with a 1-1 draw at the Proact Stadium, in a game that could easily have gone either way by the full-time whistle.

Matt Grimes’ first professional goal – a deflected free-kick – got City going in the second half, and the Grecians created a host of chances to extend that lead before Sam Morsy was sent off for the hosts for a poor tackle on Grimes.

But Eoin Doyle won a penalty late in the game and scored it himself, with the game ultimately ending a goal apiece.

Striker John O’...

Rob Baxter has hailed Jason Shoemark as a "fantastic servant" after he confirmed the New Zealander will leave Exeter Chiefs at the end of the season.

Signed in 2010 from Super 15 outfit Highlanders, the experienced 33-year-old centre has played an integral part in helping the Devon club to establish themselves not only in the Aviva Premiership, but also across Europe in both the Heineken and Amlin Challenge Cups.

His contribution to the Chiefs' cause has certainly been impressive and just a few weeks ago he was part of the Exeter side that helped lift the club's first major...

Fly-half Gareth Steenson insists performance is key for the Exeter Chiefs this Saturday as they look to overcome rivals Sale Sharks in the Aviva Premiership (3pm).

Having returned to winning ways with last weekend's 38-33 win at lowly Worcester Warriors, Devon's finest can expect another stiff examination against the visiting Sharks.

With qualification into Europe's new-look Champions Cup very much up for grabs, the need to accrue vital Premiership points has never been more important with just three rounds of the domestic season remaining.

Irishman Steenson - who...

Saint and Sinners bidding for British titles

Exeter’s top skittles teams are preparing to do battle in the forthcoming Briitish championships. And there’s a lot at stake.

The ladies team the Sinners won the trophy in 2008, again in2011 and were runners up in 2009, a track record they don’t let the Saints men’s team forget, according to the team Captain Dave Rowe.

Dave, whose teams play out of St Thomas Social Club has a theory about why the men just don’t cut the mustard.

“We always win our matches if we start off on the alleys in the balcony area," he explained.

"But once we have to play on...

Worcester Warriors 33 Exeter Chiefs 38

Games between Worcester Warriors and Exeter Chiefs at Sixways should now come with a Government health warning, such is the heart-stopping ways these games tend to end.

Two seasons ago the Chiefs celebrated qualifying for Heineken Cup rugby when they scored two tries in a dramatic final few minutes.

Last year – in a case of history seemingly repeating itself – Rob Baxter’s side nabbed another last-gasp success thanks to a touchdown from Aussie star Dean Mumm.

This time round, the Chiefs maintained their 100 per cent...
