Match report: Exeter City 1 Hartlepool 2

Exeter City’s League 2 winning run came to an end as Hartlepool United earned a 2-1 win at St James Park.

All of the goals came in the second half – Michael Woods’ first United goal handed the away side the lead three minutes into the second period, before Charlie Wyke doubled their advantage.

Christian Ribeiro grabbed a consolation for City, but there would be no points for the home side today.

With Jordan Moore-Taylor out of the Exeter City line-up after sustaining another broken foot at the Ricoh Arena on Tuesday,...

Exeter Chiefs 44 London Irish 24 Mark Stevens at Sandy Park Exeter Chiefs rediscovered their winning habit at just the right time as they swot aside the attentions of visiting London Irish with a powerful display to remain amongst the frontrunners in this season’s Aviva Premiership.

Rob Baxter’s side ran in five tries courtesy of Carl Rimmer, Damian Welch (2), Henry Slade and Don Armand, while fly-half Gareth Steenson slotted a further 19 points courtesy of five conversions and three penalties.

In a one-sided first period, all Irish could muster in terms of a score was a...

Chiefs side to face London Irish

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter says he wants to see a response from his players following last weekend’s Aviva Premiership loss at Newcastle Falcons.

Having gone into the game at Kingston Park buoyed by notable wins over Gloucester (away) and Harlequins (home), Devon’s finest hit a speed bump in the North East as the Falcons claimed their first league win in 20 games with a 29-24 success.

It was a disappointing outcome for the Chiefs, who with 20 minutes remaining in the contest were in front 24-17. However, late tries from Tom Catterick and Noah Cato proved decisive...

Sandy Park, home of Aviva Premiership rugby team the Exeter Chiefs, has undergone a £10 million overhaul in 2014 and as a result, is able to host a wider variety of events and conferences.

Match preview: Exeter City v Hartlepool Utd

A fortnight after beating top-of-the-table Bury at St James Park, the Grecians host Hartlepool United – who sit at the other extreme in the division’s standings.

A 3-0 home defeat at Victoria Park last weekend to Carlisle United, who were also struggling for form, was the final straw for Colin Cooper who vacated the manager’s chair that weekend. It was a also third game without a goal for Pools and a fifth without a win.

The resignation of Cooper, however, throws things into disorder in terms of City’s preparation. Pools are currently being overseen by centre-half Sam...

Exeter City make it 4 in a row!

Match Report: Dagenham 1 Exeter City 2

For the fourth time on the bounce, Exeter City secured a 2-1 victory – and this time it was Dagenham & Redbridge that were the vanquished side.

City were trailing to a goal by former Grecian Jamie Cureton at the break following a disappointing first half.

But Exeter, galvanised and dominant in the second period, fought back well and got on terms when Alex Nicholls was felled in the area and Jimmy Keohane netted from the penalty spot.

The turnaround was complete deep into stoppage time when Arron Davies rose highest...

Chiefs stumble away from home

Just when it looked the Exeter Chiefs had taken two significant steps forward in this season’s Aviva Premiership, they sadly allowed one back as Newcastle Falcons claimed a priceless victory at Kingston Park.

Not since October 27 last year when London Irish were turned over 20-13 had Dean Richards’ side experienced the sweet taste of victory.

They were, however, the ‘Toast of the Toon’ come the final whistle on this occasion as tries from Sinoti Sinoti, Tom Catterick and Noah Cato, plus 14 points from the boot of playmaker Juan-Pablo Socino, helped them to end a 20-game...

Exeter Chiefs side to face Falcons

Exeter Chiefs may be odds-on with the bookmakers to clock up their fourth Aviva Premiership victory of the season at Newcastle Falcons this Sunday, but head coach Rob Baxter doesn’t quite see as simple as that.

Winless in their last 20 top flight games, the Chiefs head honcho insists the Falcons have little to lose and everything to gain ahead of his side’s latest trip to Kingston Park (3pm).

Such a pre-match warning is certainly creditable from Baxter, who will figure in his 500th league game as either an Exeter player or coach this weekend. However, at the same time his...

Henry Slade insists he and his Exeter Chiefs are prepared to go to "dark places" in a bid to see off their Aviva Premiership rivals.

With three victories from four starts already this season, Slade was again at the heart of Exeter's latest success story as he helped himself to a maiden Premiership try and two penalties in the Devon club's 36-13 win over Harlequins at Sandy Park.

Alongside fellow young gun Sam Hill in the Exeter midfield, the 21-year-old back has enjoyed a stellar start to the 2014/15 campaign, producing a string of impressive on-field displays that have had...
