From St James Park to the Euros: Tracking Exeter City Academy Players on the International Stage

As Europe’s biggest stars regroup for international duty, national team rosters for Euro 2024 are filled with familiar names - few of which trace their beginnings to the lower tiers of English football.

Exeter City’s academy may not make headlines, but its graduates are making tournament squads. And while attention builds toward summer fixtures and early Champions League predictions on many of the most popular and secure betting platforms, another narrative deserves recognition: players who started at St James Park and are now representing their countries on the international...

There's more to come says Steeno

Gareth Steenson insists there is still "more to come" from him despite landing another milestone in his illustrious Exeter Chiefs career. Steenson's eight-point haul in last weekend's European Challenge Cup victory over Connacht not only helped his side move to the top of Pool Two, but it also took him past 1,500 career points for the Devon club. Now into his seventh season at Sandy Park, the Dungannon-born star has played an integral part in the recent rise of the Chiefs. His metronomic right boot has not only helped to down teams across England and Europe, but it's helped pin-point Rob...

Exmouth to host Plymouth in Devon Bowl

The Pilgrims travel to the East Devon coast for tonight's Edenvale Turf Devon St Lukes Challenge Cup 2nd Round clash with Exmouth Town. Though the visitors from League Two are likely to field a young side, the tie poses a tough task for the SWPL Premier side who are facing a club six tiers above themselves. Town last year stunned St James Park by taking an early lead and holding at 2-2 by the hourmark, eventually losing 4-2 to a mostly professional Exeter City squad. Exmouth will also take encouragement from Argyle's previous shock losses to Ilfracombe, Dawlish, Barnstaple,...

Exeter city climb to 10th

Match report: Morecambe 0 Exeter City 2

The Grecians grabbed a sixth win in eight games to return to the top half of the table as they overcame Morecambe 2-0 at the Globe Arena.

Shaun Beeley inadvertently gave Exeter the lead early on as he diverted Christian Ribeiro’s cross into his own net, and second-half sub Tom Nichols rounded it off late on with a fine finish.

It also represented a first clean-sheet of the season with everyone mucking in to help Christy Pym keep the door shut from the Shrimps attack.

Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale named an unchanged...

Exeter Chiefs 33 Connacht 13

Exeter Chiefs moved to the top of Pool Two in this season’s European Rugby Challenge Cup with an impressive five-try victory over visiting Connacht.

Rob Baxter’s side put to bed the disappointment of defeat to Bayonne seven days earlier by producing a ruthless display that swot aside the attentions of the visiting Irish province.

First half tries from Will Chudley, Henry Slade and Damian Welch set them on course for victory before man-of-the-match Dave Ewers and Ben White got in on the act during the second period.

Irish fly-half Gareth Steenson plundered four of...

Exeter Chiefs side to face Connacht

Rob Hunter believes Exeter Chiefs will deliver a rapid response this weekend as they look to get their European Challenge Cup campaign back on track against visiting Connacht tomorrow (3pm).

Undone at the death by a late try from Bayonne’s Lisiate Fa’aoso a week ago, the Chiefs are looking to put to bed the disappointing 30-24 loss at the Stade Jean Dauger by delivering a powerful display on home soil.

Already this term Harlequins and London Irish have been accounted for at Sandy Park in the Aviva Premiership, whilst Leicester Tigers were pushed all the way in the other...

Record demand for RWC2015 tickets

A total of 950,000 Rugby World Cup 2015 tickets were sold in the September general sale, with record levels of demand for tickets for pool and knock-out stage matches. Tickets were on general sale from September 12-29, and England Rugby 2015 received applications for more than five million tickets, leading to demand exceeding supply at every price category for 23 of the 48 matches. Ballots were run earlier this week for matches and price points where demand for tickets exceeded supply, and ballots were held for at least one price point in every one of the 48 matches. Rugby fans will be...

Feathers will be flying and tiny hooves will be dashing on Devon Day at Exeter Racecourse on Sunday, November 23 with the racing Clydesdales making a return and the racecourse staging the first ever race for ponies from Dartmoor.

The pint-sized ponies will come under starters’ orders at 12pm and their wee little hooves will come tearing down the track as they demonstrate their versatility as tough, hardy and fast children’s ponies.

Charlotte Faulkner of the Friends of the Dartmoor Hill Ponies, which supports and promotes all the ponies on Dartmoor, said: “This is a...

Jack's joy at England call-up

Exeter Chiefs winger Jack Nowell says he is "over the moon" after he was named in Stuart Lancaster's 33-man England squad for the upcoming QBE Autumn Internationals.

The talented Cornishman is Exeter's sole representative in the England party, who over the course of November will tackle world champions New Zealand (Nov 8), South Africa (Nov 15), Samoa (Nov 22) and Australia (Nov 29).

For Nowell, his inclusion offers him the chance to add to his current tally of five international caps, all of which were gained during this year's Six Nations campaign.

Since March,...

Familiar scoreline as Exeter City win again

Match report: Exeter City 2 Wycombe 1

Exeter City came from behind to defeat league leaders Wycombe Wanderers 2-1 at St James Park.

Despite trailing to an early Peter Murphy goal, the Grecians responded well through a well-taken goal by David Wheeler after Graham Cummins had a shot saved.

And in the second half it was captain Scot Bennett that hammered in from close range to complete the turnaround and secure the points.

Liam Sercombe missed out injured in the only change, with David Wheeler stepping into the starting XI and Ollie Watkins taking a seat on...
