Appeal after Exeter baseball club raided

A community baseball club in Exeter has been left reeling after thieves broke into its storage container and stole vital equipment just weeks before the start of the new season.

The break-in happened overnight, with all of the Exeter Spitfire's bats taken. Catchers’ gear was later discovered in a nearby field and is believed to be largely intact, although a full assessment of losses and damage is still under way.

Following the incident, officials at the club confirmed that 12 baseball bats are missing, with an estimated value of at least £1,200. Replacement costs could...

Valiant display by Chiefs

Exeter’s hopes of reaching a first-ever European Challenge Cup Final ended in disappointment as rivals Gloucester prospered in an all-action last four meeting at Kingsholm.

Rob Baxter’s side put up a valiant display against their Aviva Premiership counterparts, but it was not enough as the Cherry & Whites advanced thanks in the main to converted tries from Billy Meakes, Tom Savage and Jonny May.

854279-2Greig Laidlaw and James Hook stuck the boot further into the Chiefs with the remainder of the points – and it will be Edinburgh who now await them in the showpiece event...

Exeter City lose in stoppage-time

Match report: Exeter City 0 Southend 1

Exeter City fell to a 1-0 defeat in stoppage-time at the hands of Southend United at St James Park.

A well-contested game saw Exeter have a lot of the chances but Daniel Bentley was to record his sixth straight shut-out.

Exeter looked like they were going to also keep their sheets clean – only for Michael Timlin to steal it in stoppage-time.

Jimmy Keohane, Clinton Morrison and David Wheeler all come in for a start in the attacking positions, and Scot Bennett jumped in at centre-half – totally four changes.

That...

Blazing sunshine set the tone for the Exeter Tri Club Tristars Aquathlon, which took place at Dawlish Leisure Centre on Sunday, as part of the club’s aquathlon series. The record books were broken from the club’s junior representation alone – seeing a total of 14 ETC juniors competing across the Tristart to Tristars (7-13) categories, many for whom this was their debut performance.

First off in the Tristars 1 category were Austin Crow and Jacob Price. Jacob put in a strong first performance, setting the benchmark for future events, while Austin put in a magnificent run after a...

Chiefs side to face Gloucester

Rob Baxter says Exeter Chiefs should set their sights high and look to be amongst the top clubs challenging for honours come the end of the season.

Having already advanced to one major final this term, the Devon club are now targeting a second as they look to advance to a first-ever European Challenge Cup Final on Friday, May 1.

Standing in the way of Baxter's in-form charges, however, are Aviva Premiership rivals Gloucester, who provide the opposition in tonight's mouth-watering semi-final at Kingsholm (7:45pm).

With both clubs have advanced to this stage with...

Baxter likes what he sees in new prop

As he has proved for a number of years now, Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter isn’t afraid to put his trust in players from the Championship making the step up to life in the Aviva Premiership.

Today, the Chiefs leader has added his latest new face to the club’s playing ranks for next season with the signing of prop Harry Williams from Jersey.

The talented tight-head, who has agreed a two-year deal with the Sandy Park outfit, is Baxter’s seventh new addition for next term and his second is as many weeks from English rugby’s second tier.

Williams follows Nottingham...

The 23-year-old, tight-head prop is Rob Baxter’s seventh recent signing having agreed terms on a two-year deal from Championship side Jersey.

An upcoming front-row force, Williams has nurtured his rugby career initially as a youngster at Wasps, before moving on for spells with Loughborough University, Nottingham and, more recently, Jersey.

Standing at 6’2” and weighing in at just over 20...

Exeter City come away empty handed

Match report: Wycombe 2 Exeter City 1

The Grecians fell a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Wycombe Wanderers, who won it with the final kick of the match in the 12th minute of added time in the second half.

Sam Saunders had the Chairboys in the ascendancy after seven minutes, but after relentless Exeter pressure the equaliser finally came through Liam Sercombe with quarter of an hour remaining.

But after injuries had lengthened the game into an age of stoppage time, sub Fred Onyedinma was felled in the box to allow Paul Hayes to fire in from 12 yards with the final action...
