Exeter Racecourse launches Community Raceday and calls for Devon’s community heroes

Exeter Racecourse has launched a brand-new Community Raceday and is inviting people across Devon to nominate a community hero who deserves recognition.

Community Raceday takes place on Friday, February 20, during half term, and coincides with Devon Day at the racecourse. The initiative celebrates the people who make a real difference in their communities – from volunteers and carers to sports coaches, fundraisers and quiet grafters who go above and beyond.

Every nominee will receive a free ticket to Exeter Racecourse, and one overall winner will be treated to a Family...

Tag rugby FEZtival in Exeter

A tag rugby FEZtival is taking place in Exeter on Saturday 25 July.

Mixed veteran teams from Exeter Chiefs, Plymouth Albion, Exeter Saracens will be taking part - from club players to full blown internationals.

The event is being held at Exeter Saracens Rugby Club, Exhibition Fields, Summer Lane and is raising funds for FORCE Cancer Charity.

Gates open at 12.30pm and entry is free.

As well as some great rugby there'll be a barbecue hog roast, live music, charity auction hosted by BBC Spotlight's Andy Birkett and a festival party.

Exeter Wheelers climb Stoke Hill 100 times in Everesting Relay

Exeter Wheelers Cycling Club took part in a hill climb relay challenge up to the top of Stoke Woods to publicise their Hill Climb Festival to be held on 19th September.

Members of the club made 100 ascents of the Stoke Woods Hill (as seen in the Tour of Britain) in teams of three over the course of the day, the cyclists successfully climbed over 29,000ft, the equivalent of climbing Mt Everest to help publicise the clubs upcoming Hill Climb Festival.

Newcomer Jonny Hill wants to follow the lead of other young players at Sandy Park as he looks to establish himself at the Chiefs.

The 21-year-old forward, who has penned a two-year deal with the Devon club after joining from Aviva Premiership rivals Gloucester, has watched from afar as Rob Baxter has allowed the likes of Jack Nowell, Henry Slade, Dave Ewers Luke Cowan-Dickie and Sam Hill to forge themselves as first team regulars.

Walking footballers set for regional finals

Two teams from Exeter City are getting ready to compete in the South West regional round of the Football League Trust's national walking football tournament.

The event is being held on Friday 26 June in the Sports Hall at the University of Exeter from 7-9pm.

They will be joined in the round-robin competition by teams from Plymouth Argyle, Swindon, Bristol City and Portsmouth and the top two teams will go through to the national finals, which will be held at St George's Park - the FA's national football centre - on July 6.

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter has described today's Champions Cup draw as "fantastic" for his side as they prepare to return to Europe's top club competition for the first time in two years.

Showjumping action delights at Bicton

Bicton Arena's six day show, the largest ever competition staged at the venue, has been hailed a huge success by riders who travelled from across the UK to compete in a range of showjumping classes from novice to Grand Prix.

Robert Whitaker, a member of the famous showjumping clan bearing that name, was attending the show for the first time and was richly rewarded with some stunning results.
