Skinner locks in as Chiefs’ number 10 with new contract

Exeter Chiefs fly-half Harvey Skinner has committed his future to wearing the number 10 as he signs a new two-year contract with the club.

The Chiefs centurion has been enjoying a stellar campaign since establishing a new half-back partnership with Italian international scrum-half Stephen Varney. The pair have helped to shepherd Chiefs to an EPCR Challenge Cup quarter-final this weekend.

Skinner said: “I’m really happy to sign a new deal with the club, as I truly love playing here. I’m enjoying the connection we have among the group and the style of rugby we’re playing....

Exeter Chiefs forward Geoff Parling has been named in the England squad for Saturday’s Rugby World Cup Pool A game against Wales at Twickenham Stadium.

Sam Burgess (Bath Rugby) takes over from Jonathan Joseph in midfield and partners Brad Barritt (Saracens), who moves to outside centre in place of the injured Bath Rugby player. Owen Farrell (Saracens) starts at No 10 with George Ford (Bath Rugby) moving to the bench while Billy Vunipola (...

Hidden among the Tonga Rugby World Cup team's kit and boot bags is ... a four slice toaster!

When the lads disembarked at the city's Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel fresh from training, a sneaky peek inside the luggage hold revealed the electrical appliance tucked to one side.

Although we have found a recipe online for Tonga Toast that involves a using pan.

So they are either plugging in the device at Exeter University, where their training is taking place, or they took a trip to the Matford Car Boot sale at the weekend.

They have soon settled into life in...

Exeter skittlers aiming for British title

Exeter's Two Tribes skittles team are currently defending their mixed team title in a tense finals of the Butcombe British Skittles championships being held in Torquay.

The team who play out of St Thomas Social Club showed impressive form in the play off stages and are tipped to do well again.

But two popular teams, Heavitree Heroes who were mixed team runners up last year failed to qualify this time. Meanwhile the Sinners, women's champions in 2008 and 2011, are not competing this year.

So it's all down to Two Tribes mixed and men's teams, along...

Two Tribes, two times British Champions

The night belonged to Exeter at the Butcombe British Skittles Championships at the weekend when Exeter’s Two Tribes team successfully defended their mixed team title in a last minute comeback. They beat their rivals by just three points but it was enough to lift the coveted silverware for the second year running at the championships held in Torquay.

Two Tribes captain Barry Powell said he saw the match slipping away to their Gloucestershire rivals, Satellite’s Scorching Hoppers and managed to rally the troops.

‘We kept our nerve and got through it,’ he said. ‘It’s a...

Chiefs 59, Bath 14

Pre-season or not, running up a half century of points against your nearest and dearest will always be something to savour.

Exeter Chiefs made it two wins from two in this season’s Westcountry Challenge Cup as they swept aside rivals Bath with an eight-try blast at Sandy Park.

The home pack did much of the damage for Rob Baxter’s side, producing seven of those scores – three of which came from penalty tries – as the visitors struggled to contain the energetic and forceful Exeter eight.

Then behind, young fly-half Joe Simmonds enjoyed a magical debut display,...

Exeter City leaves it too late

Report

DESPITE a late surge, Exeter City were beaten at the Wham Stadium after conceding four goals in two quickfire spells against Accrington Stanley.

In the absence of Jamie McAllister, Craig Woodman was handed a first league start of the season at the Wham Stadium, with Lee Holmes also coming into the starting line-up after coming off the bench in the previous week's win over Hartlepool United.

David Noble and Tom Nichols both shot over in the opening fifteen minutes, but the best chance of that period went the way of the home side, as Tom Davies pulled a full-...
