Exeter Racecourse launches Community Raceday and calls for Devon’s community heroes

Exeter Racecourse has launched a brand-new Community Raceday and is inviting people across Devon to nominate a community hero who deserves recognition.

Community Raceday takes place on Friday, February 20, during half term, and coincides with Devon Day at the racecourse. The initiative celebrates the people who make a real difference in their communities – from volunteers and carers to sports coaches, fundraisers and quiet grafters who go above and beyond.

Every nominee will receive a free ticket to Exeter Racecourse, and one overall winner will be treated to a Family...

Exeter City draw at home

City and the Exiles share the spoils at SJP

IN A REPEAT of the reverse tie at Rodney Parade in October, Exeter City were pegged back by Newport County AFC as both sides had to settle for a point.

Paul Tisdale made four changes to the City side following midweek’s trip to York City, with Jamie McAllister, Arron Davies, Alex Nicholls and David Wheeler all coming in.

The home side's first chance fell to Jayden Stockley, whose shot was deflected just wide of Newport keeper Joe Day’s goal. City continued to push for an opener as Alex Nicholls' right-footed free-kick was...

Carrots for winners at Exeter Racecourse

The Devon National Handicap Chase will take centre stage on Haldon Hill on Friday, February 26 and Exeter Racecourse is rewarding each horse that runs with a net of carrots and a box of polos.

The race is Devon’s very own Grand National and draws entries from many seasoned horses who may not be top class, but who have built up their own legion of fans during the years they have been racing.

“It’s a race I really love with well known horses often in the line up,” explained General Manager Daniel Thompson. “It’s always very competitive, and you can sometimes get an outsider...

Ryanair will take over the sponsorship of the World Hurdle at Cheltenham after British Racing’s Authorised Betting Partner scheme saw Ladbrokes demoted from the sponsorship rights.

The ABP scheme, in which bookmakers are required to pay a percentage of their digital profits on horseracing back to the sport as levy, encourages racecourses to adopt new sponsorship deals only with bookmakers who were part of the scheme.

Unfortunately for Ladbrokes they did not sign up to the agreement and that has allowed Ryanair to swoop in, with the Irish airline’s boss Michael O’Leary...

Exeter City lose to York

BRADLEY FEWSTER scored twice to condemn the Grecians to a 2-0 defeat at Bootham Crescent. JORDAN MOORE-TAYLOR returned as captain for Exeter City; Jake Taylor made his first start since rejoining the club in the January window, while Ryan Harley was another City man who made his return to the starting eleven after an appearance off the bench at Wycombe at the weekend. Matt Oakley and Jordan Tillson were the fourth and fifth changes from the weekend. This clash ended 0-0 at St James Park earlier in the season - the only time City have been involved in a goalless draw all season. City had...

Baxter delighted to welcome Turner on board

Exeter head coach Rob Baxter has today spoken of his delight at bolstering his Chiefs squad with the signing of Australian international Lachlan Turner.

The 28-year-old has agreed a two-and-a-half year deal with the Aviva Premiership club and arrives at Sandy Park having previously played for Aussie Super Rugby sides NSW Waratahs and Queensland Reds, as well as French Top 14 giants RC Toulon.

Turner’s arrival in Devon provides a perfect boost for the Chiefs, who are sitting second in the Premiership table and who have also qualified for the quarter-finals of the European...

Exeter Chiefs newcomer Lachlan Turner says he's more than happy to be thrown in at the deep end after he today sealed a move to the Aviva Premiership club.

The Australian international touched down at Sandy Park this morning to begin a two-and-a-half year deal with Rob Baxter's high-flying outfit.

Having played predominantly back home in Australia with Super Rugby sides the NSW Waratahs and Queensland Reds, the 28-year-old back last year spent time in the Top 14 with RC Toulon as World Cup cover.

Now, Turner - who has won 15 international caps for the Wallabies - is...

Exeter City FC says ‘no to homophobia’

Exeter City Football Club will be taking another stand against homophobia at its home game with Newport County (Saturday, February 20; kick off 1pm).

The match has been designated as the Club’s annual “Football v Homophobia” fixture and a number of initiatives to mark the day have been organised by the Exeter City Supporters’ Trust and its One Game One Community (OGOC) Group and the Club’s Football in the Community charity.

This is the seventh time that a Football v Homophobia match has been held by Exeter City and the initiative has been backed by first team player and...

Baxter calm after defeat

Never one to get carried away in victory or defeat, Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter remained level-headed after seeing his side slip to a second successive Aviva Premiership defeat.

Sale Sharks maintained their unbeaten home record this season by inflicting a 23-17 loss on their rivals from Devon at the AJ Bell Stadium.

Johnny Leota, Nev Edwards and Mike Haley all crossed for first half tries as the Sharks stormed into a 17-0 lead at the break. The Chiefs, however, were much improved after the interval and countered with converted scores of their own through Jack...

Sale Sharks 23 Exeter Chiefs 17

Sale Sharks whipped up their own on-field version of ’Storm Imogen’ to wreak havoc on the high-flying hopes of Exeter Chiefs in the Aviva Premiership.

Undone on home soil by league leaders Saracens the week previous, Rob Baxter’s side crashed to a second successive league defeat as the Sharks delivered a telling first half bite that the Chiefs never really recovered from.

Johnny Leota, Nev Edwards and Mike Haley all crossed for tries during the opening 40 minutes for Steve Diamond’s side – and fly-half Danny Cipriani did the rest of the damage as he slotted a conversion and...

Exeter City beaten at Adams Park

A WONDER GOAL from Wycombe Wanderers midfielder Stephen McGinn eight minutes after the half-time break proved the difference between the two sides as Exeter City’s run of Sky Bet League 2 victories came to an end at Adams Park. In a hard-fought contest City had chances to take the lead in the first-half. But the Chairboys flew out of the traps after the half-time interval – McGinn popping up with the decisive stroke in the fifty-third minute. Paul Tisdale made three changes to the side that came away from Hartlepool victorious a fortnight ago, with David Wheeler handed a start for the...
